About Me
Born to a happily married couple in south Trinidad, Mervyn “DJ InSiDe OuT†John was always surrounded by music. Seeing that his relatives were so greatly involved in the music industry,it was no surprise that Mervyn would be involved into music also. Parents, Margaret and Mark John both were strong influences for him, as his mother was a singer and his father was a musician. At the very tender age of five (5) Mervyn was already playing the drum set and operating small music set up’s, following the path of his father. Mervyn was quite familiar playing the drums in church and operating his fathers’ Dj set up at home.As he grew older his love for music just kept growing. While attending primary school he became a bit more active in music by beginning to play the recorder, sing in the school choir and play the chac chac (the maracas) in the school’s parang group. He became some what one of the “stars†of the parang group by continuously drawing attention due to his performance. When he graduated to Junior Secondary school, he was the only student in the first term of that year to get a full 100 % pass in music, both practical and theory. As time went by, he became “laid backâ€, and was in-active in music for a while. But after a possible year and a half break he returned to the playing drums in church. seeing that he was now around the pans more often by this time, and knew that he was a fast learner of music, he beganto play pan. He was now a pannist in church.two years later, the group Disciples For Christ (DFC) was birthed. This group of young men were singing and was led by Dwayne “Silent-Sah†Bedeau. It was at that time that Mervyn decided to resume singing and joined the group together with two of his cousins Louis Lewis and Junior Ovid. The group also included Keron Woodly, Jason “J Square†Joefield, Swayne Bedeau and Jesse Luces. The first lady of DFC was Baby D (no relations to Baby C). - (check out Silent-Sah and J Square at www.myspace.com/missionepistle).After the break up of the group (DFC), about a year, Mervyn was asked by Swayne to join a group that he formed. The name of that group was Anointed Ones, and the members at the time when Mervyn joined was Swayne Bedeau, Keron Woodly and Adisa “God’s Farmer†Samson. - (check out God’s Farmer at www.myspace.com/godsfarmer). couple of months later the grouped recruited two other equally talented persons by the name of Kurvel and Emmanuel "Spiritual Echo" Smith. - (check Spiritual Echo out at www.myspace.com/spiritualecho). This group is one of Trinidad’s newest and up-coming groups and is going places, look out for them. - (check out the group Anointed Ones at http://www.myspace.com/anointedones).But apart from singing and playing instruments, Mervyn had another music desire. That desire was to become a disk jockey (DJ). Through out all his up’s and down’s in music, this was something that was always on the Mervyn’s mind. He always tried to DJ at home, even when he didn’t know about CD mixers or turntables, and was using cassettes to mess around with. He seeked inspiration from radio DJ’s like Jamie Thomas, DJ Blessment and Space Man in the days of LOVE 94.1fm. But as those days were over, Mervyn now sought the influence of selectors such as, Tony Matterhon, Fire Links, Mighty Crown, Jugglers Sounds and Judah International. After a period of time, Mervyn finally decided to officially appear as a DJ, after which he was constantly ask by his peers to become one. Not long after this decision, he linked up with another DJ that was now on the gospel scene. This selector and good friend of Mervyn’s was Joel “Jomega†Prince, the leader of the gospel sound system Omega Express Sound Station, in which Mervyn “DJ InSiDe OuT†is apart off. - (check out Jomega and Omega Express Sound Station at www.myspace.com/omegaexpresssoundstation). The name INSIDE OUT was given to Mervyn by Spiritual Echo and means holy ghost filled within and without hence InSiDe OuT.
