About Me

Hey everyone, welcome to my MySpace page.

I really hope you enjoy visiting my page and my music. It'd be great to have you as one of my friends, so please add me and I will enjoy visiting your sites. I'll be adding new music regularly so stop by often.

As a composer, conductor, music copyist & engraver, orchestrator & arranger, I am always looking for new opportunities and projects, so please feel free to get in touch if you'd like to collaborate or commission, or just suggest and support. I would love to hear from you.

Influences:

Influenced by all music, and listen to everything I can get my hands on. But to name my current influences:

Classical: Beethoven, Bach.

Contempoary: Ravel, Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Ligeti, Nielsen.

Film: Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, John Williams, Harry Gregson-Williams, Tan Dun, Ennio Morricone.

New Zealand: John Psathas, Anthony Ritchie, Douglas Lilburn.

I am very aware of the fact that film scores are these days the only way that general non-concert-going audiences hear orchestral music. So I think that influences my orchestral writing. Also recently have done alot of percussive writing and that process seems to have influenced me.

Sounds Like:

If you were to take a little from all of my above influences, blend it all together ... then you probably have the beginnings of my style.

I tend to have alot of interesting juxtapositions in a piece, but am moving away from this a little. Am starting to use the idea of "energy" to characterise my music more than anything else. I also have a tendency to write rather complex music. Not fully by desire, it just seems to turn out that way.

Generally I try to write music that, whatever the parameters, is comprehendable to the general ear and doesn't need to be studied or listened to numerously before it can be enjoyed. More soon...
