About Me
Hey all, my name is Andrew Cochrane, but you can call me Andy Keys. I am a musician from Auckland, New Zealand and I play the piano. My music career started in this fair city, I was trained as a classical pianist at Auckland University under Rae de Lisle (world's best teacher!!) graduated in 2004 and have been gigging ever since.I play in and have played in too many projects to remember but I'll try and do my best to give you a run down of the story so far:My first Rock band was at the tender age of 12 in Wellington, a band called the Beagles, we had great fun, our 'hit' was twist and shout by the Beatles, I was lead guitar and backing vocals, and I played with some great cats, Nick Hoare lead vox and rhythm, Jeremy Graham bass and bv/s and Richard Voss on drums. We were the first intermediate band to ever play in the Rockquest competition 1996 and we were given a guest spot in the regional finals! Woot!!!! That whet my taste for rock and roll, and I formed a couple of rock bands up in Auckland, Mime, and Apollo Drive. During this period I started jamming at Singsing at Float bar, playing keyboards with acoustic sets from James Reid (the Feelers), Jason Kerrison (Opshop), Phil Stoodley (Stoods), Jay and Shan Brown (48May) and our very own Taye Williams. We would also play with cats from Nesian Mystik, Blindspott, Elemeno P, Steriogram, Stylus, Redline and other great guys.I played as a guest pianist for Opshop, opening for Maroon 5 in 2005, and later with my band, Taye Williams and the Phat Laces, opening for American All Star R&B Duo K'Ci and Jojo. I appeared again as a guest pianist for Cold By Winter, with Blindspott, The Feelers on Top of the Pops for their single 'Stand Up' and on Coast (C4 and Maori TV) as Taye Williams and the Phat Laces earlier in 2006.I cannot rate my boys highly enough, so to Taye, Harlem, Matt and Paul, you guys are the shit and I love you boys.
