Timothy Tate was born in Cornwall, England in 1981 and began studying the guitar aged nine. He taught music in South Indian school in 2000 and also took Sitar lessons in Varanasi. From 2000 Timothy studied with John Mills and Chris Stell at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama graduating with a distinction in performance followed by a Masters degree during which he researched the role of the guitar in contemporary classical music. Whilst at college he won various awards including the BMus Year Prize for highest marks, and in 2005 he won the John Mills Prize for most outstanding performance in competition. He also studied with Sven Lundestad at the Norwegian Academy of Music, Oslo in 2003.Timothy performs with flautist Tina Hitchens and the cellist Junyan Liu, with whom he played for the Singaporean Prime Minister in London. Timothys performance at the 2004 William Walton Festival in Oldham attended by Lady Walton was followed by an invitation to perform at her estate on Ischia, Italy the following April. He is also the guitarist for 'In Transit' (www.intransit.moonfruit.com) who are the resident ensemble of the Cardiff New Music Collective, a group dedicated to performing and composing new music.
