The guitarist Gjermund Titlestad and Marius Gundersen started Duo Gvito in 1998. They showed quickly their artistic qualities, and their fully booked concert calendar turned them into one of the most active guitar duos in Norway. It did not take long for them to set their international mark, and they have won wide acclaim for their energy filled playing, their musicality, their ability to communicate from the stage and not least for the enthusiasm they show for the music.
Some of the highlights Duo Gvito can look back on, are several tours in Norway, concerts in Sweden, Great Britain, Germany, France and the USA, festival visits to Festival Internacional de Guitarra de Morelia in Mexico, Vestfold International Festival, Bergen International Guitar Festival, the Norwegian Guitar Festival, Bolivar Hall Guitar Festival in London and The Versatile Guitar Series in Cardiff. When we add live performances in radio and on television both in Norway and Mexico, it is clear that we are dealing with two musicians that together have been recognised and respected for their musicality and quality of performance.
In addition to this both of them have a solid education as musicians: Titlestad from the Welsh College of Music and Drama, Eastern Norway Conservatory of Music and the Norwegian State Academy of Music. Gundersen from Agder Conservatory of Music, the Norwegian State Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
The audience continues to appreciate the fact that Duo Gvito is focusing on a wide repertoire. The guitarists continue to bring their classical guitar repertoire to arenas that not necessarily are used to this music (cafes, jazz clubs, different institutions etc.) to underline their desire to reach a wide audience. Duo Gvito decided that their second CD should be released on the jazz label Hot Club Records for this very reason.
In October 2005 Duo Gvito were price winners at ”The Open Strings Guitar Competition” in Osnabrück, Germany. In both 2005 and 2007 they have received Vestfold County’s grant for Cultural Development, and in 2006 they received a travel grant from the Norwegian State.
Duo Gvito have published two CDs. The first one in 2002 with music by Sommerfeldt, Granados and Bach, and the Second one in 2005 with South American music. Both productions have received great acclaim from critics and audience alike.
