Sakiko Masuda began learning classical piano from an early age. She was interested in not only classic but also jazz music and studied playing jazz piano after high school. Influenced by Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Joe Sample, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea.
In 2000, she took part in IASJ jazz meeting that was a leadership of David Liebman, in Paris, France. It was the start of learning jazz composition and arraigning. Immediately she decided to go to U.S. and studied composing and/or arranging under Ken Pullig, Scott C. Free, Ted Pease, David Johnson, Laszlo Gardony at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
After finished course of jazz composition major, She became a member of Global Jazz Orchestra, which is active in the west area of Japan, as a composer and an arranger. Global Jazz Orchestra played her compositions at IAJE in New York, 2004 and the memorial concert for Kobe "Phenix Jazz Festival 10th Anniversary" in Japan. The 7th Arrangers Workshop in the Netherlands, she was one of participants, it was a great opportunity for her. She learned arranging for orchestra under a leadership of Vince Mendoza. "Autumn Winds" composed by her, was played by Metropole Orchestra conducted by Vince Mendoza.
She has been composer, arranger, pianist, teacher, transcriber, and also a member of Kyoto composers jazz Orchestra as a composer.
