KEITH PLAYING DRUMS WITH KEVIN CADOGAN - AUG. 6/08
THE PIPER OPERA HOUSE - VIRGINIA CITY, NV
"ROCK LULLABYE"
"HOW'S IT CONNA BE"
"GOD OF WINE"
“ES-SENSE OF SPENCE” - A TRIBUTE TO SKIP SPENCE
June 20, 2008 - The Rio Theatre, Santa Cruz
Alexander "Skip" Spence was a true pioneer and visionary of the West Coast psychedelic and folk rock movement of the '60's. Often remembered for his non-conformist behavior, tragic lifestyle and galvanizing stage presence as a singer and guitarist more often than for his great songs, this is an opportunity to celebrate the artist and his work. The stories of the erratic drug-fueled behavior, the comparisons to Syd Barrett and other tortured artists simply don't encompass the work, the sheer number and variety of great songs. Skip was in an early version of Quicksilver Messenger Service. Then, he was the first drummer in the Jefferson Airplane. He was a founding member of Moby Grape, and was one of the key elements in the formation of the Doobie Brothers.
Performing songs Skip wrote for Jefferson Airplane, Moby Grape and his solo album, ’Oar’:
Omar Spence - vocals/guitar (Skip Spence's son)
Steven Krilanovich - guitar/vocals (The White Album Ensemble)
Dale Ockerman - keyboards/guitar/vocals (The White Album Ensemble/Doobie Brothers, and at age 17 played with Quicksilver Messenger Service)
Tiran Porter - bass/vocals (The White Album Ensemble/Doobie Brothers)
Keith Graves - drums (bass player for Quicksilver Messenger Service and also plays bass with Jerry Miller (formerly of Moby Grape) on the road, and fills in on bass at times with David and Linda Laflamme of It’s A Beautiful Day and Jefferson Starship). Most recently, has been working with Kevin Cadogan, singer/songwriter from Third Eye Blind.
On September 2nd, 2007, in front of a crowd of around 100,000 people, at Spweedway Meadows, Omar played with Moby Grape, then Dale and Tiran played with the Jerry Miller Band, followed by Keith Graves who played with Jefferson Starship, for the 40th Anniversary of the Summer of Love.

KEITH ON BASS WITH JEFFERSON STARSHIP AT GOLDEN GATE FREE CONCERT
- SEPTEMBER 2, 2007:
JEFFERSON STARSHIP WITH KEITH ON BASS PERFORMING "VOLUNTEERS"
(see, I'm way in the back)
July 11, 2007
FESTIVAL OF THE RIVER, Arlington, WA
JEFFERSON STARSHIP and QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE manager, wrote the following in the JS Log about Keith after he played in Arlington with QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE:
"KEITH GRAVES will be with us in Rosalia (near Spokane, WA), Sausalito and "the secret show" (shhh!). I would not be surprised if he becomes the band's full time bass player...and real soon. That's how good he is and how good he got along with everyone on and off stage. THAT is "the chemistry" That worked. "He had no practice, no tapes...only some charts, key coaching, his wits and a whole world of talent! Because CHRIS SMITH has taken years to hone the left hand bass component we employ, we decided to "help" him out by adding KEITH GRAVES on 5-string bass. KEITH is JERRY MILLER's bassist and DAVID FREIBERG drafted him to replace BOBBY VEGA in QUICKSILVER, so with some last minute coaching and music chart study KEITH dived in. The show WAS highly spirited and we have asked KEITH to play bass again next week and in Sausalito. Without meaning to get too far ahead of myself I have a feeling he may stick around for a while. His playing and appearance are reminiscent (to me anyway) of BOTH SF luminaries JACK CASADY & PHIL LESH and that ain't necessarily a bad thing."
2008 NAMM SHOW - ANAHEIM CONVENTION CENTER
I was born in Wellington, New Zealand on June 20th, 1966, residing there for a very brief time before the family relocated to L.A., CA. In 1977 moved to Santa Cruz where my musical desires began. From the age of six, I began banging out sounds on the piano and assorted household items. Surrounded by a household of artistically creative family members (both my mother and father were artists), it was my destiny to define my own artistic abilities.
I grew up with Gabe Butterfield, son of Paul Butterfield and we started our first band together in 1980, Gabe on drums and me on guitar. Music is definitely my calling. I am predominantly a self-taught musician and am a deeply dedicated, grounded and centered performer.
Instruments: Bass (electric, acoustic and upright), Drums, Guitar (electric and acoustic).
Styles: Rock, Alternative, Blues, R&B, Funk, Reggae, Country, Americana, Fusion and more.
BANDS:
