Welcome to the wonderful world of Vavavavoom!
"There's darkness at the edge of town but always a warm welcome at Vavavavoom!"
In this - Vavavavoom’s 11th year - we are celebrating being one of the foremost Neo Burlesque companies in the UK, incorporating dance, music & theatre, as well as festival & corporate entertainment work. From modest beginnings in 1997, we quickly grew from a small cabaret show to a large scale theatrical troupe of performers, complete with our own Big Band of world class musicians - The Dimestore Jive Revue!
Under the guidance of creative director Stella Starr, who also performs & sings with the band, the Vavavavoom! enterprise is going from strength to strength - developing exciting new touring theatre shows for 2008 & beyond!
With Special Thanks to our wonderful choreographer & guest tutor - Fifi de Maintenon!
The Vavavavoom! Burlesque company has been at the forefront of the New Burlesque explosion since we began in 1997.
The Vavavavoom shows are produced and directed by renaissance woman extraordinaire, Stella Starr, who is one of the first of the New Burlesque performers in the UK.
Stella started out as a child star of her father's films - he being the infamous Underground British filmmaker and artist Jeff Keen. From such Bohemian beginnings, Stella went on to be a comic book artist and perform in various bands, most notably as a drummer in low-fi punky pop band SEXLOVEBUSTERBABY!
Stella has been performing in cabaret since 1994 when she was running and performing in the weekly Brighton Zap Club shows - "Andy Walker's Fame Frame" & "The Billy Silver Show". Here she started working with the inimitable Fezman Bob E. Gold and amazing choreographer Fifi de Maintenon! From an enduring love affair with Vintage Glamour, Burlesque, Pinups, Jazz & Rockabilly/Voodoo Blues, B-Movie Trash, Punk aesthetic and the Golden Age of Hollywood - so "Vavavavoom!" was born in 1997 and has been going from strength to strength ever since...
Our shows range from fantastical themed Cabaret Nights to spectacular Theatre Shows, Festival acts and so much more. Stella not only runs the show with her fabulous troupe of talented performers, but also performs herself with Burlesque acts and torch songs - all singing, all dancing, all shakin' up a storm! We were proud to be part of the first International Burlesque Festival TEASEORAMA in New Orleans in 2001! Stella Starr has been nominated for an Erotic Oscar + we have also shimmied across the stages of the Spiegeltent and many other exciting venues.
