My name is Ria and I'm an artist & illustrator from Brighton.
I have been painting for several years now, venturing into burlesque and promotional illustration again in 2006. I also work as a graphic designer during daylight hours, which has helped to discipline my freelance work. I believe every communication should go further; in strategy, in creativity and quality. I strive to understand aims and obstacles, and immerse myself in the marketing objective to deliver unique and refreshing results. This applies to any project I take on and I take it very seriously, whether it is illustration, painting or branding.
The themes of my illustrative burlesque artwork are based on individuals that have made an impact.I enjoy creating visuals for performers as it explores the extrovert. I am fascinated by the fact that people often lead double lives, one that is quite grounded and human whilst also being able to become somebody completely different. I like to put my own representation on this transition by producing illustrations that are semi-realistic and sometimes dreamlike.
I am influenced by the glamour of the forties and fifties and the representation of the female form. With all my commissions, I discuss with the individual their experiences of the stage, and the things that make them tick. I like to know everything in detail, such as favourite colours, scenerios, appearance and what creates and feeds their stage persona. With this done, I then add my own spin on things, and create the illustration tailored to the individual.
