The band Bardukha was formed by a coincidence when a friend found himself in dire need of wedding band. Those who responded to the distress call were percussionist SteingrÃmur Gudmundsson, accordeon player Ãstvaldur Traustason, violinist Hjörleifur Valsson and bass player Birgir Bragason who was funny enough the groom, got together and played their own blend of nordic gypsy, mixing together balkan,slovenian, persian and arabic influences with a decent portion of icelandic folk music added. The reaction at the party was so fantastic that the four players deceided to get together again and try their spicy coctail on some local citezens. The same thing happened, everywhere they played people seemed to go nuts. The word has been spreading fast and Bardukha has played everywhere in Iceland; in bars, private parties, Churces, concert halls on national TV and radio. Although Bardukha's music seems to be traditional and all the changes very set and pre planned, one shouldn't be fooled. All four of the band members do go off on tangents of improvisation and extended solos that take the music to a higher level and new and unexplored dimensions. Therefor the music of Bardukha has a very unique sound and style wich they have named BALZAMER. It is not unusual for the band to play for hours upon hours creating a very special and exciting atmosphere where the audience as well as band members will start singing and dancing until drenched in sweat. Bardukha members are all active in other music areas and now, after playing together for a few years they have released a cd, full of their extraordinary music and joyful spirit.
