Kanga Roots was founded in 1997 by Lars Vegas, B-Dread und Dave in Hamburg/ Germany. Following the big Jamaican sounds of the 60s like Sir Coxsone Downbeat or Duke Reid, the Kanga Roots crew build their own sound with giant towers of speakers and amplifiers. When the sound was ready, the crew took the sound and their records into the truck and start to spread Caribbean flair and reggae vibes in and out of Hamburg
In 1998 Lars Vegas started to work as a tourpromoter. Between 1999 and 2001 he brought most of the well known U.K. dub-soundsystems like The Disciples, Rootsman and Iration Steppaz to Germany. At the same time, Lars established the Epicenta Club at the Roten Flora in Hamburg. The Epicenta Club was one of the most popular Dub-Clubs of that time.
From 2002 he works as a selecta again and the musical style of Kanga Roots has completely changed. Lars Vegas got inspired by dancehall reggae more and more. Kanga Roots hosted a Club, named Domino Club, at the legendary Marquee in Hamburg St.Pauli.
Besides their own regular dances, Kanga Roots is known as one of the top-a-top local promoter in Hamburg and responsible for a handful of dancehall-events like the Euroclash between Pow Pow Movement and One Love Hi Pawa in Hamburg. Kanga Roots was the promoter - and couple of times backing sound - for artist like Richie Spice, Jah Mason, Lutan Fyah, Perfect, Chronicle, Shinehead, Ranking Joe, U.Brown, Action Fire, Trilla Jenna all across Europe. In the past years Kanga Roots played alongside sounds like Sound Trooper, LP International, Massive B., David Rodigan, One Love Hi Pawa, Freddie Krueger, Goldrush International, Sentinel, Soundquake.
From 2003 until 2007 Kanga Roots hosted the regular Downtown Rockers and Treasure Isle Club at the Waagenbau in Hamburg. Nuff national and international artist and sounds passed by in more than 4 years.
