Massaya Soundsystem Hamburg
In Summer 2003, the four friends Semik, Trappa, Pruzza and Roman finally put the long-planned idea of founding their own soundsystem into action. Semik (selector, producer) and Roman (selector) had already played their first dates together, when Trappa came back from Costa Rica, where he had gained his first important experiences as a soundsystem mc and already had played his first soundclash. It was just a matter of time, until the own soundsystem was founded: Massaya Soundsystem. Till Shiloh became part of Massaya after Pruzza had left the sound. He is Massaya’s soundengineer, operator and third selector.
Since the day the sound was founded, about four years ago, Massaya could establish as one of Hamburgs top-a-top soundsystems.
Massaya play a nice blend of finest roots and lovers Rock tunes mixed with modern roots and actual dancehall and when Trappa is in a good mood, he even performs some of his newest tunes, live on stage. Massaya are known for being especially focused on uplifting and conscious reggae, what made them being subtitled as "righteous warriors".
So, it is no surprise, that the readers of the "Riddim"-magazine elected massaya into the top5 of germany’s most popular soundsystems.
Massaya put a lot of love and effrort in recording dubplates with national and international stars as well as newcomers, which makes them a special experience for the listener.
Massaya run their own Reggae/Dancehall Club named "Destination: Kingston" gathering 300-400 reggaeheads and dancehallfans, every month. In November 2005, they won the annual Hamburg 45-clash, which even included a dubplate-segment.
During the last 4 years Massaya played longside Black Scorpio (Ja) & General Trees (Ja), Ginjah (Ja), Spruddy One (Tübingen), Gramigna (It), Heartical (F), Far West Crew (Bel), Roots Rockers (München), Lionhearts (HH), Roots Commandment (HH), Soundbwoys Destiny (Frankfurt), Shake-A-Leg HiFi (Tübingen), Firesound International (Plauen), Rainbow Warriors (Wuppertal), Citylock (Berlin), Constant Pressure SupaSoca (HH), Soca Twins (Berlin), BamBam (Berlin), I-Tal Acoustic (HH), Kanga Roots (HH), Bushfire (HH), Steppin Warrior (HH).
Massaya rocked the place in: Ahrensburg (42), Bremen (Moments), Dresden (Katys Garage), Plauen (Alte Kaffeerösterei), Hannover (UJZ Korn, Black Sugar), Kiel (Luna Club), Mainz (Kasematten, Kulturcafé), Mannheim (Lagerhaus), Meißen (Nachtcafé), München (Backstage), Münster (Triptychon), Rostock (MS Stubnitz), Schleswig (Billy’s Pub), Tübingen (Jazzkeller), Wilwarin Festival 2006, Wuppertal (Café Ada), Aarhus/Denmark (Studenterhus Aarhus)...
