TRÉ THOMAS has launched a music movement that will further break down the walls separating gospel and secular music.
Tré infuses his fresh R&B sensibilities with messages that address real-life issues and reaffirm the fact that God cares, understands and loves us all unconditionally—with a love that the walls of the church cannot confine.
Tré Thomas goes beyond our individual walls of comfort and reaches people where they are.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana,
Tré realized his passion for music at a very early age. Although he grew up in church, R&B has always been his musical frame of reference. It's his desire to stay true to what he knows artistically without overshadowing the ministry of his music. That goal has led him on a ministerial journey rich in experience afforded by local opportunities in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. Currently a member of
Metropolitan Baptist Church (Rev. H. Beecher Hicks, Pastor),
Tré has held membership in
Daniel Austin & Divine Adoration , as well as
Charles Butler & Trinity ; acted as soloist, director and interim business manager for the
Howard Gospel Choir of Howard University; served as musical director, assistant to the minister of music, psalmist and worship leader at
Carolina Missionary Baptist Church (Anthony E. Moore, Pastor); and sang background for
Richard Smallwood ,
Maurette Brown Clark ,
Ted & Sheri ,
Lacresia Campbell ,
Lucinda Moore , and
Byron Nichols .
Tré exudes a minimalist style, and his honest, warm vocal tones pay a befitting homage to his myriad musical influences:
Luther Vandross ,
Donny Hathaway ,
Brandy ,
Carl Thomas ,
Tweet ,
Joe ,
Byron Nichols ,
Ted Winn , and
Daryl Coley . In addition to stellar writer/producer
Donald Lawrence ,
Tré counts among his greatest musical mentors the world-renowned
Richard Smallwood .
As a solo artist,
Tré Thomas is featured on
Richard Smallwood 's latest project
"Journey-Live in New York," which debuted in the no. 1 spot on Billboard’s Gospel chart. He has also been featured at the Langston Room (Busboys and Poets, Washington, DC), UNIFEST Cultural Festival (Washington, DC), The Hawkins Music & Arts Conference New Artist Showcase (Oakland, CA), the Uptown Live series (Tribal Spears, Harlem, NY) and the Mayorga Coffee Factory (Silver Spring, MD).
Through his movement,
Tré conveys that it is okay to be cool, current and different, without compromising loving God and having an effective message to share with the WORLD.
