i'm excited about browsing used cd shops for old Lps and rare music. I don't like it but I force myself to work out at the gym. Though I'm pushing 40, I still hold out dreams of having a six pack one day...if only for a few weeks (LOL). I used to be very into politics and worked in some campaigns, but now I dont even like discussing politics. There are so many hypocrits and liars. I'm totally unenthused by anyone currently running for president - that's right - anyone.
I don't really know......I'm not star-struck and I've already met a lot of famous people. The people I'd really like to meet are dead. Lucille Ball and the whole "I Love Lucy" cast, Marvin Gaye, O. V. Wright - I can't think of anyone else.....
Almost everything I like musically is ancient. In terms of young stuff, I like Corrine Rae Bailey, John Legend, Joss Stone, Ryan Shaw, Amy Winehouse (wish she'd get herself together and go to Rehab tho) and Fergie. My desert island discs: 1) ) Neither One of Us (side one of whole LP) - Gladys Knight & the Pips 2) Natalie! (whole LP that includes "Keep Smiling" and "No Plans for the Future")-Natalie Cole 3) Gotta Serve Somebody/Slow Train Coming - Bob Dylan 4) Dreams - Fleetwood Mac 5) Live at Carnegie Hall - Ike & Tina Turner 6) Let's Do It Again - The Staple Singers 7) Everybody Loves Me - John Jennings 8) I Can Let Go Now - Alison Krauss 9) Walk Away/The Sky is Falling - Tracy Nelson 10) Love Chain/You Don't Love Me No More - Candi Staton 11) How Do You Mend A Broken Heart - Al Green 12) Sparkle CD - Aretha Franklin 13) Your Precious Love - Linda Jones (she's a beast)
The Lemon Drop Kid with Bob hope and any of those gritty 1970s Pam Grier movies......... In terms of recent movies, I love The Bourne Identity with Matt Damon and the Devil Wears Prada with Meryl Streep.
I was an "American Idol" fantatic but I've had enough of that now. I do love "Two and a Half Men", "60 minutes", and TV Land reruns. Because I've been renovating my house, I've gotten very attached to a few shows on the HGTV network. I like Barefoot Contessa, the Neelys and the other black lady on Sunday. I watch "Clean House" to hear Niecy Nash make fun of nasty-living folks' houses and make that little screechy sigh with her voice. She is hilarious to me. I love her so much that i just watched her interview a bunch of ignorant and vapid celebrities walking the red carpet at the Fashion Rocks show - something I would have never watched otherwise; but Niecy kept it funny.otherwise, i'm content with my complete set of The Avengers with Emma Peel and Mr. Sneed. I love that show. I'm watching it right now.
Hmmm. I know how to read, but I don't read much unless you count street signs and fortune cookies. Some books that I've read in the past that I appreciated at the time I read them are Frank McCourt's Angela's Ashes, Ralph Ellison's Invisble Man, Danny Santiago's Famous All Over Town, Maya Angelou's I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (and I do know let me tell ya!), Peter Guranick's Sweet Soul Music, and Ann Petry's The Street. There are a few others but that should give you an idea.
I'm my own hero and you should be your own hero because if you aren't proud of yoruself and what you've accomplished, why live? So, live it up and celebrate YOU! (with moderation)
