CANDI STATON
DISCO LEGEND IS TOP TEN AGAIN WITH “LOVE SWEET SOUNDâ€Former disco princess Candi Staton has hit the Billboard dance charts for the first time in 28 years. The four time Grammy nominated vocalist’s collaboration “Love Sweet Sound†with British dance duo, Groove Armada (Andy Cato & Tom Findlay), has been 10 for three weeks on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay chart. Staton wrote the lyrics and sang them on top of Groove Armada’s inspirational electronica track. The song is featured on Groove Armada’s recent Strictly Rhythm CD “Soundboy Rock†which debuted at 10 on Billboard’s Electronic Albums chart in April 2008. The former London club Djs first came in contact with Staton after witnessing one of her London concert dates in 2006. They became instant fans and invited her to appear on their next project. The result is “Love Sweet Love†and another song entitled, “Paris.â€Staton’s last US Billboard dance chart entries were all under the Warner Brothers Records label. “Looking for Love†peaked at 60 in 1980. “When You Wake Up Tomorrow†and “Victim†both hit 3 in 1979 and 1978 respectively. “Young Hearts Run Free,†“Destiny†and “Run to Me†were all 1 dance hits in 1976. However, her biggest dance song of all is the European club classic “You Got the Love†which, under various remixes, hit the UK Top Ten pop charts in 1991, 1997 and again in 2006. The song’s publisher has never allowed the song to be released in the USA, although, it was featured in the finale episode of HBO’s “Sex in the City†series. In other Candi Staton news, Staton is rumored to be returning to the studio in May 2008 to record a new Americana/Southern Soul CD as a follow-up to the widely acclaimed 2006 EMI/Honest Jons effort, “His Hands.†Mark Nevers is returning as producer and indie folk artist, Will Oldham, who wrote “His Handsâ€, is said to have written a new song for the project. The 2004 EMI/Honest Jons “Candi Staton†CD reissue of Staton’s long out-of-print 1969-1973 Muscle Shoals/Fame recordings became a worldwide smash hitting the pop charts in England, France, Greece, the Netherlands and Japan.Staton is also in the final stages of finishing her first ever urban praise and worship gospel CD. Aside from new compositions such as “Jesus Makes My Morning Sing†and “I Will Rejoice in the Houseâ€; the project features Staton covers of Stephen Hurd’s “Undignified Praise†and Paul Baloche’s “Our God Saves.’ The project is Staton’s first gospel collaboration produced outside of her Beracah Ministries organization. John Brockman, a music minister at Atlanta’s Hope & Life Fellowship Church, is producing the project which will be released by Emtro Gospel on October 21st. Then, in 2009 look forward to Candi's new Honest Jons soul CD tentatively entitled "Get Your Hands Dirty."MEDIA CONTACT: Bill Carpenter at (202) 506-5051 or
