About Me

Header Banner Made with MyBannerMaker.com! Click here to make your own! Yaaba Funk! celebrates the sounds of 1970's Ghanaian Hi-Life. The eight core members all met through their love for African drumming and dance. The members of Yaaba Funk! have been soaking up strong rhythmic influences whilst playing in various outfits such as traditional African groups Adzido, Fri ti-ti and Jeli masa, Trinidadian avant garde funk poet Anthony Joseph’s Spasm Band and psychedelic Nigerian sounds of Eardrum. The current outfit have been together since May 2006 setting various venues alight with their blend of London urban sounds and the Hi-Life of 1970's Ghana. Yaaba funk has attracted the interest of some London's great hi-life/afro-beat musicians. Vocalist Nana Tsiboe and guitarist Alfred Kari-Bannerman have both guested with Yaaba Funk! on a number of occasions. Trumpeter Robin Hopcraft of the Soothsayers is a regular guest. One of London's finest soul vocalist Lifford (Public Demand, Artful Dodger 'please don't turn me on' ) guests on Yaaba Funk!'sfine mash-up of classic Ghanaian Hi-Life with the Detroit Spinners’ “I’ll Be Around”. Yaaba Funk! are currently putting the finishing touches to their debut album, working title 'No Sleep till Accra' (financiers will be greatly welcome.) Their blend of Hi-Life, ‘afro-broken beat’ and funk is greatly anticipated by their growing fanbase who can't get enough of their sound. Their energetic performances have led to comments such as 'better than sex' , ‘almost like Fela at the Shrine’ and “masters of energy”. WE DJ GOOD TOO!!!!!! SO IF YOU NEED AFRO-BROKEN BEAT-LATIN-HIPHOP-FUNK-REGGAE TUNES THEN WE'RE YOUR BOYS. The Yaaba Dj's, Chief Commander Yaaba, the Outlaw Clive Wales, and Chief Commander P have been thrilling party goers with their blend of urban london sounds and obscure latin, funk afrobeat grooves from around the globe. The band and the Dj's are available for private parties, funerals and wakes, weddings, children's parties, barmitzvahs, and festivals.Yaaba Funk! are part of a strong, live Afro-based music scene that is emerging from South London, proof that the FUNK IS ALIVE my friend.!!alt="Photobucket" href="http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vczEyMi5waG90b2J1Y2 tldC5jb20vYWxidW1zL28yNTMvcGF1bGJyZXR0MS8/YWN0aW9uPXZpZXcmY3 VycmVudD1ZQUFCQUFOREpFU1NFLmpwZw==" target="_blank"I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)

This is a quote from Elvin Jones: "Thad told me this many years ago and it got to me when he said it. He probably doesn't even remember saying it to me. He just said, 'Whenever you play, imagine that it's the very last chance or opportunity you'll ever have.' So just that thought is enough incentive to at least not be wishy-washy or do something insignificant. At least it will bring out whatever honesty is in you to be applied to your instrument at that time. That's the only philosophy I know -- just to do the very best you can at all times.
Sounds Like: A DAMN GOOD TIME!!!
