About Me

My real name is Christina Zaenker, and you can probably figure out the rest from reading on...I am a cellist, singer, amateur trumpet player, and a bass/ rhythm-playing cellist. I love recording and playing original music. I am a musician who can pick up and play with anyone, at anytime, and can fake any song or instrument, but I dont really write songs or lyrics (unless you like metered, rhyming Dr Suess poetry). Music is my life, but I am involved in all aspects of making and supporting music, the arts, heritage and culture in general. I have many interests but music connects it all! How can you have passion for life without an avenue to express it?? I love touring and playing for people, but I also love developing relationships with communities and nature. Music has allowed me to travel and meet new people, so I am ever grateful to have & share my talent.I have been performing and recording since 1997- and have officially recorded on over 2 dozen albums. I rarely *just* record or play.. When I get involved with someone, I often help organize the shows, promote the gig and spread the word about the artists/ music, because I believe in it. I take pride in creating events for and with other people, and became hooked to this when my friends and I created a vibrant arts community & event producting collective called the Living Closet (Vancouver, 1998).My current roster of bands and people play with includes- _Yael Wand - my musical partner/ friend/ bandmate of many many years: she just released her second album which I contribute lots to, and she is successfully touring and promoting throughout Canada: her music and voice is original and inspiring. _the Joey Only Outlaw Band- my kickass country punk rockabilly band. We have been successfully touring Western Canada since Sept 06 with our EP, and are gearing up to record our full length album this summer. Cross Stompin Tom with Johnny Cash and Billy Bragg, and you get Joey Only... but add some hot sauce and freakish instruments and you get the OUTLAW Band!_Kevin Kane- of Grapes of Wrath fame- my old fav band, and now I am a significant part of Kevins new album- to be released Sept 07. His songwriting and music remains a compelling part of Canada:s emotive soundscape, and he is an in-demand producer._Leela Gilday- she just won the JUNO for best Aboriginal Album of 2007! Leela is an amazing person, musician, songwriter, role model, performer and more.. I am an honorary 6th member of her talented 5 piece band.. yowza! nice to add harmonies and cello!_Joel Kroeker- an awesome Canadian songwriter, just released his second album, signed to True North/Universal records; great live and recorded, and a humble person-check him out, as he will be around for a while yet!_Art of Dying/ Hethro-accoustic- AOD is the alt-rock band, winner of 2006 CFOX seeds competition, and are gaining radio play and exposure over UK/Canada; I am on 2 songs on their new cd. I love to play with Jonny and the boys for their local accoustic shows._David Roy Parsons- a great songwriter and musician, his music reflects his spirit and journey though many of lifes difficulties and triumphs.. his new album is great and is a favourite in my cd player.. I recorded on the first song, and it is also a keeper!-- Other artists I have worked with in the past: _Jenny Galt, of Cherrybomb-- she is embarking on a whole new era of music and performance, after being on the MTV show Rockstar Supernove in July 2006. She still lives and performs in Van, but is heading for a superstar packed career._Rae Spoon- the awesome alt-country singer, and a good friend. Rae has been touring Canada, Europe, Australia and more, and is a perennial favourite at every hip venue/ fesrival in Canada- especially ArtsWells! I may be recording with Rae again in 2007... there are many more- such as: T NILE, Wayne Lavalee, Joanna Chapman-Smith and more... but I will stop there...My list of people I play with is growing daily, and I would love to add to your music too:) I love to record...
