Northerner of the Year... Up here

About Me

Up Here Magazine's Northerner of the Year... www.uphere.ca WINNER- WESTERN CANADIAN MUSIC AWARD 2007 for Outstanding Aboriginal Recording of the Year. WINNER- INDIAN SUMMER MUSIC AWARD for Best Folk Album WINNER- 2007 JUNO AWARD- for Aboriginal Recording of the Year. NOMINATED for 3 Aboriginal Peoples' Choice Music Awards, 2 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards.
Born and raised in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, I have come to appreciate the heartbeat of life, and how that resonates through our experiences. My songwriting reflects all those things. I love to sing- I feel like the voice is a human birthright and it should be used often-I think people respond to my voice the way they respond to any instrument- with powerful feelings. I have a lot of family and friend-style support. I am an independent Dene artist from the north. My second full-length album, a new CD by the name of "Sedzé " recently won the Aboriginal Recording of the Year at the 2007 Juno Awards. To order "Sedzé", or my previous recording "spirit world, solid wood":
