Im a 30 year metis girl, who's interested in creating Aboriginal contemporary children's music. Currently I volunteer to teach 25 Aboriginal children from 1-14 years to drum and sing. I write Aboriginal children's music that incorporates the Cree language. Our group is called "Children of the Rainbow Drum Group" and we perform all over the lower mainland around Vancouver BC focusing on promoting Aboriginal early childhood education, music and culture. Our group represents all nations, all colors, Peace, Unity and harmony. COTR have a strong First Nations focus but open the group up to all cultures. We perform using hand drums, the pow wow drum and guitar. I am working on completing my first Aboriginal contemporay children's album that will be released in November 2007. It will include some of our hit songs, such as "My Moccasins, The Bannock Song, Children's Warrior Song and The Canoe song. I feel that there needs to be more people creating Aboriginal contemporary children's music...and sometimes I feel like Im the only one out there doing it... But hey...I guess someone has to... If you know anyone out there doing Aboriginal children's music...forward my info on.... thanksMy full time job is working in the Aboriginal community of Surrey, BC, as an Aboriginal Infant Development Consultant and Early Childhood Educator. I am also a PT student in the Infant Development Program @ the University of British Columbia (UBC).I enjoy music, playing guitar, harmonica and working in my URBAN Aboriginal commununity to support our people in becoming a stronger nation. Children of the Rainbow Drum Group dedicates all of our performances to our Elders, because without them, we would not be here today - Proud and Strong!" I also believe that we need to invest in our children to ensure that they become the leaders of tommorow. As one of 12 National Aboriginal role models for Canada for 2005/06, I was able to travel across Canada to speak to the youth to encourage them to pursue their dreams. I am very greatful for the opportunity that was given to me to represent our indigenous people here in Canada. I am interested in meeting like minded individuals that are doing their part to make a difference in this world - for the better. Especially other Aboriginal/First Nation artists and musicians. If You want To find out more about the COTR Drum group and their upcoming shows...just click on their link on my friends list or search for them in my space..they have a seperate my space that lists their shows, Sample of my music, more pictures, etc.
