~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks, for coming to the EDEN MYRRH band site. My name is Nikko. I founded this band with Todd J. Kulessa in Dec of 1987. Many of you may be wondering just what the meaning of EDEN MYRRH stands for. First off the band is NOT a religious group. However a sense of reality with religion is present. EDEN (paradise of God), MYRRH (suffering to death). * e'dan-mur*. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In Dec of 1987 Todd and I were introduced to each other by Darwin Yano. Darwin was the local guitar/hero for us. He was and is a awesume friend! Todd and I had decided that we wanted to create our own sound, our own style. Something that made us distinct without being radical. We originally called the band 'Valiant'. The first song was called 'Marching Out'. Recorded on EP. Todd and I grew-up in Williams Lake B.C. Learning to play guitar together, we went through the hurtles of playing. We had alot of fun in those days, hangin in my basement suite. Drinkin and pickin! One of my favorite memories was our trip to Prince George, BC. Hangin at Katia's place. Even under bad circumstances, I still smiled. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In 1989 we relocated to Winnipeg, M.B. We had such fun times. Jules would visit often. At this time we changed the band name to Eden Myrrh. It came to Todd after we were jamming drunk in his grandma's basement. I remember the time we went to see Iron Maiden at the Winnipeg arena. I had won tickets on Citi FM. We had such a killer time. Here we released a E.P. on cassette in 1991. In July of '92 I went out to Windsor, Ontario. Played with some good musicians, and seen for the first time how bands worked and operated in the industry. After returning from Detroit in mid 1993. Todd and I worked at my house recording. We really bonded as friends. I've got such good memories of this period. Especially when Jules came out to do "The Interview", and taking pictures. On Aug 13th 1993 we released the soon to be re-issued 'Eden Myrrh' self titled instrumental. At that time we went to Ontario to promote. After a few weeks Todd had decided to go back to B.C. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At this point I was frustrated. money was tight. I was dealing with a break-up. Still we stayed in contact and exchanged ideas. Mostly the material was all Instrumental. In 1996 we got more into the lyrics end of songwriting. This is when most of the material for 'Insurrection' was written. However, we never got a full band together. At this point I began working with a solo artist in 1997 out of Edmonton. Working with Brad in the studio was awesume. At this time Todd was working on a project called 'Blood'. He recorded and logged alot of riffs & lyrics. We later decided to use these tracks on '...And fire for all my friends'. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In Feb of 1999 I went to play with Midnite Serenade in Portland, Oregon. The gig was short lived. Too much inner turmoil. Jules came in from Japan and helped me decide what to do. Tony Hampton and I remained close friends. After leaving that band, I moved to Edmonton, Alberta. Tired of the constant travelling and bands that just didn't work, I started working on the drilling rigs. I kept playing and Todd would come from Kelowna, BC to record and write. One song called 'Sail to sunset' featured both of us doing vocals, and Tony on bass. We always were close in friendship from the time we were teenagers. 14yrs as best-friends! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tragically on Feb 9th-2002 Todd J. Kulessa suddenly passed away. That was devastating! We were band-mates and more importantly, best-friends. I left Edmonton and moved back to my house in Manitoba. After some time at my house, I took some time to re-grouped my thoughts. I came to the conclusion, that to end the project with all the music we'd worked on, would be a dishonourable thing. Todd had recorded quite a bit. Everytime since 1987 when we first met, I would record us playing, exchanging ideas. Alot of this material is on 'Timeless'. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In 2002 & '05 I had the idea to do a limited box set, for the serious fan. Its entitled 'Timeless'. It features alot of rarities. This 3 disc cd set of recordings are now completed. I wanted to complete this first. Release it last. A NEW Interview with Jules was done on Jan 13th/08. Alot is discussed and gives a good overview of my plans. In the beginning of May/08 I will be recording the Drum/Bass tracks with Brad & Trent. Then its just a mix and print. Then immediately start 'Insurrection'. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In conclusion I feel that it is important to remember that this is not only a project about remembering Todd, but also a start of a NEW band. NEW members, and NEW music! Finishing what we started is simply RESPECT! Malmsteen, George Lynch,Vinnie Vincent, KK Downing, The great Kat and the 'Mean motherfuckin man' Chris Holmes...All these individuals have made a impression on what I enjoy musically.
