James Lear

Twice as much fun as the Da Vinci Code - and half as long!

About Me

Prowler Soho, 12 June 2007 Sharing the top five with my young friend Paul
I am the author of four books of gay adult fiction, The Low Road, The Palace of Varieties, the Lambda-nominated The Back Passage and the newly-published Hot Valley (May 2007). The first two were published in the UK by the now-defunct Zipper Books. I'm now published in the US by Cleis Press, and distributed all over the free world.
All four novels are a rip-roaring good read with lashings of extremely explicit sex in them. Here's a selection of reviews.
"Lear takes the conventional British murder mystery and turns it on its ear by adding a hearty dose of graphic gay sex and a comedic sensibility ... The entire affair is just about as believable as The DaVinci Code, it's twice as much fun and half as long. But gay male readers beware: reading this book in public could place such a strain on the groin, you might become the center of attention in unexpected ways." Robert Julian, Bay Area Reporter
"If you find lots of explicit sex in your murder mystery distasteful, stop reading right now. This is not your kind of novel ... But for those of you who are still with me: the good news is that not only is the sex a lot of fun, so also is the actual mystery itself." Drewey Wayne Gunn, Reviewing the Evidence
"James Lear's great strength as a writer is in his romp-like pace and crisp dialogue ... Not many could take on a gay interracial romance set during one of America's bloodiest periods and make it not only kind of fun but also a bit raunchy." Will Louis, X Factor
"Lear is catapulted to the rank of a major literary pornographer." Barry Lowe, SX/XX Magazine, Sydney, Australia (yes, at last, I'm big down under)
