Ste McCabe

Bitter and Twisted

About Me

I am Ste McCabe and I like to blend punk rock riffs, pop melodies, tacky beats and working class queerness into things often called songs.
I like to rip up copies of the Daily Mail, write songs of humour and bile and play sarcastic political pop-punk for DIY, feminist and alternative queer shows - otherwise any shoddy venue full of unsuspecting indie boys running for cover makes me feel good.
Pink Bomb EP available on CD from record shops across this foul land or it can be ordered directly from the best indie label bar none, Cherryade Records . Tracks are : Huyton Scum/Rant/See You In Hell/One Step Too Far/Selling Beauty.
Here’s some things people have said about "Pink Bomb" :
"A short, sharp bullet of a record. McCabe is kicking against the pricks - and declaring homosexual cliches bankrupt." - Artrocker
"Perfectly titled, Pink Bomb is like a musical explosion, blowing away conformist consumerist pap and attempting to show the grittiness of real life. " - Gaydar Nation
"Ste McCabe is a positive hero...imagine a one man ranting DIY queercore punk rock riot with a drum machine and a hint of Morrissey" - Organ
"Fab lo-fi queer bedroom punk, like Jilted John with political awareness berating a bigoted chav over a cheap drum machine." - Gay Times
"Beats the hell out of Billy Bragg for social commentary" - Unpeeled
"Ste has brought back the DIY ethic. Just him and a guitar and a drum machine can make a hell of a lot of noise and a make a hell of a lot more impact than a lot of the shite that passes for punk at the moment." - Is This Music?
"When I say ’talented gay Mancunian punk’ you probably think of Pete Shelley from the Buzzcocks, right? He is, after all, one of the best songwriters this country has ever produced. Well from now on think Ste McCabe as well. This guy is the business." - Lobster Quadrille
And what would reviews be without intelligent critiques like the following?...
"Sensational isn’t it that you’re gay? Wow. Get over yourself" - Noize Makes Enemies
"Ste ? What was wrong with Steve ? Every bloody two bob laddo seems hellbent on abbreviating his name into oblivion these days with this ‘Ste’ business." - CD Times
The following 5 minute video is from Liverpool’s Homotopia queer festival, featuring me (at the start and end of the programme...no I’m not the drag queen, afterwards..), stand up lesbian comic Jane Townend, drag comic Laquisha Jonz and drag performance artist Adrian. Watch it, it’s very entertaining..
