Thanks for visiting our Myspace page. For anyone reading this who is unsure of what a Ladyfest is, it is a festival which promotes and celebrates women in arts and music. . An opportunity for anyone, regardless of age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, background or ability to become involved in organising a safe, supportive and inclusive autonomous, non-profit and non-hierarchical event and to hopefully have some fun and make some friends along the way!
We hope to provide spaces for as many different kinds of expression as possible, we hope there will be music, art, comedy, film, theatre, poetry, dancing and workshops on a wide range of topics.
Why Ladyfest?
Because, unfortunately, many female musicians, artists, writers and performers of all kinds can still find themselves marginalised. Female or female fronted bands are often still seen as something of a novelty in the mainstream indie world and many female artists and performers can be labelled as 'special interest'. The world of music in particular remains very male dominated, despite the existence of endless incredible female artists. Ladyfest seeks to redress this balance by focussing on female creativity and giving women the opportunity to showcase their talents and have their voices heard in a totally supportive environment. How it all began...To find out more about the exciting history of Ladyfests, about how it all began and how Ladyfest has now become a worldwide phenomenon, visit the Ladyfest Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/ladyfest
