www.cherryademusic.co.uk - *DIY Record Label of 2006* (Radio 1)

About Me

Hello there, thanks for taking a peek at our Myspace! So, what is Cherryade?Well, primarily we’re a teeny tiny record label run by Rach and Adam with help from lots of lovely people along the way (you know who you are!) We started the label in the summer of 2005, inspired by all the fabulous DIY stuff that was going on around the UK (particularly in Norwich) and despite having no idea what we were doing we’ve somehow managed to still be releasing records now and to have released the following pop classics of which we are inordinantly proud: CHY016 – ‘Pink Bomb’ Ste Mccabe (cd ep, released Feb 18, available to pre-order now) CHY015 – ‘A Very Cherry Christmas Vol. 3’ – Various Artists (CD Compilation album) CHY013 – ‘Fruit Is Nature’s Candy’ – Candy Panic Attack (7”ep on bright pink vinyl) CHY012 – ‘S’Amuser Com Des Fous’ – The Bobby McGee’s (7” ep on blue vinyl CHY011 – ‘Mistakes In All The Right Places’ – Steveless (cd album) CHY010 – ‘I’m Your Boyfriend Now’ – Tall Pony (cd single) CHY009 – ‘We Go Out’ – Tiger MCs (cd album) CHY008 – ‘The World Of Listen With Sarah’ – Listen With Sarah (cd ep) CHY007 – ‘My Little Hula Girl (WWW Remix) – Listen With Sarah (7” single) CHY006 – ‘Very Cherry Christmas vol. 2’ – Various Artists (cd compilation album, sold out!) CHY005 – ‘The Bobby McGee’s? Yes Please!’ – The Bobby McGee’s (7” ep on bright pink vinyl, limited stock left!) CHY003 – ‘Welcome to the Mid-West’ – Forest Giants (cd album) CHY002 ‘A Very Cherry Christmas’ – Various Artists (compilation album, sold out!) CHY001 ‘Popular Music In Theory’ – Steveless (available on 12” pink vinyl only, cd is sold out!)You can buy all these releases from our website: www.cherryademusic.co.uk where you can also read more about the artists. There are links to all of their Myspace pages in our favourites too. It’s been an jonour to work with all these artists and we have lots more exciting releases planned for 2008 including a single from the hotly tipped Kabeedies from Norwich and The Gresham Flyers from London. We absolutely love Christmas and have released 3 volumes of ‘A Very Cherry Christmas’, of which only a very limited number of vol. 3 and none of vols 1 and 2 are still available. Just some of the wonderful bands who agreed to record festive tracks for these seasonal treats were Das Wanderlust, The Hot Puppies, Misty’s Big Adventure, Sarah and the Johnsonauts, Hello How Are You?, Giant Robot and the City of Tokyo, Grand Prix 86, Container Drivers, Chihiro, Dawn of the Replicants, Beatnik Filmstars, Pocket Gods, Jack Hayter, Girl From Headquarters, Jocky Venkataraman, Thee Cats Pajamas, Paul Hawkins, True Adventures, Lucky Lucky Pigeons, Life With Bears, Chalkdust, Applicants, The Narrow Escapes, Ghouqueu, Zoltan Kodaly School For Girls, A Smile and A Ribbon, The Lovely Eggs, Billy Ruffian, The Deirdres, Pandot, Miss the Occupier, Hug Party, MJ Hibbett and the Validators, The Madrigals, Balor Knights and Master Solo.We have been surprised and touched by the number of people who’ve written nice things about our releases, played them on the radio and generally been wonderfully supportive, there’s far more than we can name here but we’d like to say thank you to all of you! In December 2006 came our proudest moment to date, we were invited to Maida Vale for the recording of Huw Stephens Christmas show for Radio 1. There was a real party atmosphere and we were absolutely thrilled and astounded to be told that we were being made ‘DIY Label of the Year’, Huw Stephens and producer Louise K have been a fantastic support to us and to countless other great bands and labels and we thank them for all they are doing for DIY music, long may their good work continue! But Cherryade has something of an identity crisis, so we’re not just content with releasing great records, we’ve also been hosting a radio show called ‘The Rachael Neiman Experience’ since 2004. The show was originally a weekly broadcast on Lancaster student radio station Bailrigg FM, but later, due to unexpected (and totally undeserved!) popularity amongst online listeners from all over the world we started doing the show twice weekly. In 2005 the show was nominated in the category of ‘best alternative show’ at the National Student Radio Awards and we went down to London for a glitzy awards ceremony where we got to meet Steve Lamacq and Vic Mcglynn. When we finally left uni and moved to Manchester we joined fully licensed Peel-inspired station Dandelion Radio for which we stil contribute monthly shows and are very proud to be part of their excellent schedules. You can stream the show at: www.dandelionradio.com please check the schedule page for broadcast times. If you’d like to send us music to play on the show then please message us through this page or to: [email protected] We always love hearing new stuff and are pretty open-minded, but here’s a bit about the show so you know what we’re all about: ‘The Rachael Neiman Experience’ is a journey through the weird and wonderful world of our record collection. You can expect to hear riot grrrl, tweecore, Norwichcore, antifolk, pop, indiepop, bubblegum, noise pop, electropop, queercore and much much more. In short, expect, hand claps, lots of casio keyboards, recorders, lots of ‘whoos’, female vocals, bleeps and squeaks, a dash of feminist politics and an enormous serving of totally unabashed pop thrills. Warning, the brilliant music may be interspersed with nonsensical ramblings from us (well, me really, Rach x) So far we have been lucky enough to have sessions from the likes of Bearsuit, Envelopes, Vichy Government, Pocket Gods, Spinmaster Plantpot, Adam Green, The Bobby McGee’s, Das Wanderlust, Chips for the Poor, Ste Mccabe, Camera Obscura and many more! We’re also delighted to be involved in organising Ladyfest Manchester 2008. If you’re interested in becoming involved in a female focussed arts and culture festival in the Manchester area then please visit: www.myspace.com/ladyfestmanchester to find out how to get involved!Rach has also written a couple of articles for superb Welsh culture fanzine: ww.miwsig.com and hopes to write more in the future if she has time and if they’ll still have her amateurish reviews!Who are we? Allow us to introduce ourselves, we are Rach and Adam Cherryade, we live in a lovely (and very pink and kitsch) flat in pretty Didsbury in Manchester. We both love music and our love for music has taken us on some amazing adventures to weird and wonderful places and has introduced us to some amazing people! We met while doing English Lit degrees at dear old Lancaster uni in 2004 and have been together ever since! During this time Rach has tried to cure Adam of his love for worthy, tedious post rock by introducing him to the beautiful world of pop, it’s worked, while he still listens to Dirty 3, etc. he now has a healthy love for all things twee, pop and riot grrrl but still resists the allure of Shampoo! We don’t know what direction Cherryade will take next but we’re sure it’ll be all kinds of fun so watch this space (no pun intended!) Alternatively you can visit: www.cherryademusic.co.uk Rach and Adam Cherryade xx

I'd like to meet:

Ummmm..... tricky one that. I've been lucky enough to meet a lot of my heroes, it has to be said that the vast majority of them are bands and so after years of gig-going and the band interviews recorded for my radio show I've managed to meet a fair number of my favourites.Really, I'll never actually get to meet the one person who has probably shaped my musical tastes, and consequently my life, more than any other, the late great John Peel. A true legend, the world is a poorer place without him. I'd listened to the Peel show since I was about 11 and consequently had grown up listening to the incredible variety of truly heart-stopping music he played on every single show, I always hoped to meet him, one of my dreams was to one day record a Peel Session, though as I can't play a note this was perhaps a little optimistic, but it shows the awe with which he was viewed by so many.
