About Me

I'm a retired surgeon, full time author-publisher, 5 time Lammy finalist and winner of two Lammy awards. I have over thirty lesbian novels and anthologies in print, including the Lambda Literary Award winners "Erotic Interludes 2: ed. with Stacia Seaman" and the romance, "Distant Shores, Silent Thunder", as well as the Lambda Literary Award Mystery Finalist, "Justice Served" and Romance Finalists, "Turn Back Time" and "When Dreams Tremble". My work includes romance, erotica, mystery, intrigue and suspense. Strong women in love populate my imagination and my fiction. I have selections in multiple anthologies including "Wild Nights", "Fantasy", "Best Lesbian Erotica 2006, 2007 and 2008", "After Midnight", "Caught Looking: Erotic Tales of Voyeurs and Exhibitionists", "Hide and Seek", "First-Timers", "Ultimate Undies: Erotic Stories About Lingerie and Underwear", "A is for Amour", "H is for Hardcore", "L is for Leather", and "Rubber Sex: Erotic Stories". I am honored to have been selected to be the editor of the anthology, "Best Lesbian Romance 2009", forthcoming from Cleis Press. I am the recipient of the 2003 and 2004 Alice B. Readers' award for my body of work and am also the president of Bold Strokes Books, one of the world’s largest independent LGBTQ publishing companies.
I began reading lesbian fiction at the age of twelve when I found a copy of Ann Bannon’s Beebo Brinker. That book and others like it convinced me that I was not alone, that there were other women who felt like I did. Our literature provides support and validation and very often, a lifeline, for members of our community throughout the world. I am proud and honored to be able to publish the many fine authors at Bold Strokes Books and to contribute in some small way to the words that celebrate our lives. I live with my partner, Lee and our family of dogs, in the country in upstate New York and in Provincetown, Mass. I am a member of the Lambda Literary Foundation, Romance Writers of America, Publishing Triangle, and Publisher's Marketing Association (PMA).

Reviews for Radclyffe's books

Shield of Justice: “… As I read through the novel, I discovered a moving love story between two remarkable women, each strong and capable, but each very different from the other. You gave them time to overcome their emotional caution and to develop a deep and touching bond. The love scenes are moving and genuine, as are Catherine and Rebecca themselves. It is truly engaging to see them reach across the divide of fear and difference and meld with each other. One imagines this relationship unfolding in the future as a passionate and enduring union. But even more, you managed to weave this lovely romance through the well-plotted story of a terrifying serial rape and murder mystery. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough!”
—Ann Bannon, author of The Beebo Brinker Chronicles.
In Pursuit of Justice: "...the solid prose and sure-handedness of the narrative make this a cut above the merely formulaic. Radclyffe's style is clear and direct, without being heavy-handed; despite the stereotypical trappings of cop life, for example, you get the sense she has considered these women and their inner lives. In an early scene Catherine, watching Rebecca dress for work, recognizes a subtler, more profound transformation taking place: "As she assembled the symbols of her identity, Rebecca's expression became more remote, her carriage more guarded, and her eyes more distant It was a frightening thing to witness when what Catherine needed most from Rebecca were the parts she so naturally hid away. ... In Pursuit is "celebratory" in the sense that these are strong, compelling women battling obstacles in the pursuit of something worthwhile; be it love, justice or compassion."
-Elizabeth Flynn, Lambda Book Review, Vol 12 (7), 2004
Honor Guards:"Honor Guards, the latest installment of Radclyffe’s Honor series, takes place in the days just before 9/11, and effectively uses the countdown as more than just an ominous backdrop – understated and deftly woven into the story, the coming disaster becomes almost an unseen but tangible presence that shapes the entire narrative. As usual, Radclyffe delivers an engaging tale of Secret Service agent Cameron Roberts and her lover/protectee, First Daughter Blair Powell – lovers who, living in the public spotlight, never seem to find a moment’s peace. Equally compelling this time around, however, is the subplot involving the blossoming relationship between agents Renee Savard and Paula Stark, in a storyline full of the sexual awakening that is the hallmark of Radclyffe’s work. The real story, however, is the tension between love and duty faced by Cameron and Blair – a vein that Radclyffe has successfully mined throughout the Honor series, and to which she returns here with stunning success. Powerful characters, engrossing plot, and intelligent writing – Honor Guards is a non-stop page-turner that ranks among the very best of Radclyffe’s remarkable oeuvre."
—Cameron Abbott, author of To The Edge and An Inexpressible State of Grace
