About Me

My first mystery novel, Mahu, was published in 2005 by Haworth Press, and then reissued by Alyson Books in March 2009. My hero, Honolulu police detective Kimo Kanapa'aka, is dragged out of the closet during the investigation of a difficult case. I've been delighted to hear from fans who have fallen in love with Kimo, as I have.
Mahu Surfer, book 2, was published in August 2007 by Alyson Books, who brought out the third book, Mahu Fire, in April 2008. The fourth book in the series, Mahu Vice, in August 2009. I've also written a number of short stories, both mysteries and erotica, featuring Kimo.
My first romance novel, GayLife.com, is coming out from MLR Press in June. It's a fun romp about a gay guy in love with his boss, set against the development of a gay website.
I have also edited two erotica anthologies from Cleis Press, Hard Hats and Surfer Boys..
I grew up in suburban Pennsylvania and now live in South Florida with my partner of nearly 8 years and our golden retriever. For more about me and my books, see my website at http://www.mahubooks.com

"New Amsterdam" and story structure

When Fox’s "New Amsterdam" debuted, I was intrigued. The lead character was cute and the premise was interesting: a 400-year-old detective who can’t age or die until he meets his true love...

I heard something on the radio the other day about "swimming with the dolphins," and though of course they were talking about the aquatic mammals, my first thought was that I wished they offered sessi...
