About Me

BIOGRAPHY:"The sky's the limit"-Bass Guitar Magazine"Jenkins augments his considerable chops with a cool vision"-Bill Milkowski, Jazziz Magazine"Just the right measure of restraint and rip, mixed with homage and innovation...The electric bass debut of 2004." -Phil Dipietro, AllAboutJazz.comRecent NYC transplant Steve Jenkins has been involved with music since the age of three. After studying piano, trumpet, and dabbling on guitar for a while, Steve soon found his instrument (or perhaps it found him) when he discovered the electric bass at age 13. His logic for wanting to play bass was simple; he just couldn't decide between the drums or guitar. This partially explains where his eclectic, versatile approach to the instrument comes from.In late 2004, Steve Jenkins released his first solo album--the critically acclaimed self-produced "mad science". It features David "Fuze" Fiuczynski, Adam Deitch, Jeff Bhasker, Sam Kininger, Charles Haynes and others. Some of the musicians that he has recorded, toured, or performed with include: David Fiuczynski, Vernon Reid, Ingrid Michaelson, Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta), Wayne Krantz, Corey Glover, Screaming Headless Torsos, Dean Bowman, DJ Logic, Stephanie McKay (astralwerks recording artist), Sam Kininger, Adam Deitch, Steve Hunt, Eric Krasno(Soulive), Hiromi (telarc jazz recording artist), Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter, John Blackwell (drummer for Prince), Sean Rickman, Federico Gonzalez Pena, and many others.Steve is currently a member of Screaming Headless Torsos, David Fiuczynski's KIF, and Vernon Reid's solo project Masque. Please check out my website as well: www.stevejenkinsbass.com

Sounds Like: "Just the right measure of restraint and rip, mixed with homage and innovation...The electric bass debut of 2004." -Phil Dipietro, AllAboutJazz.com......."Offering up his sophisticated support and blowing prowess on the opening "Orange", Jenkins enlists Fiuczynski for the dark, exploratory "Thought Police", slaps scarily on "Zeta Reticuli" (featuring saxophonist Sam Kininger from Soulive), goes chordal and global on "Merkaba", and nods to the groove Gods on a feel-rich cover of Herbie Hancock's "Actual Proof". " -Chris Jisi, Bass Player Magazine. January 2005 issue......."Among up and coming bass players, few have the kind of raw power, deep pocket and melodic lyricism that Steve Jenkins has." -David "Fuze" Fiuczynski (guitar player extraordinaire, Me'shell N'degeocello, Screaming Headless Torsos, Hasidic New Wave)........."One of the modern day masters of bass and I have no doubt that he will be on the scene for along time to come" -David Dyson (world-reknowned bassist for Me'Shell N'degeocello, Tim Hagans, Jonathan Butler, Pieces of a Dream)........... "The sky's the limit"-Bass Guitar Magazine.........."Jenkins augments his considerable chops with a cool vision"-Bill Milkowski, Jazziz Magazine
