Lady Panic came to be in the summer of 2006 when four ambitious musicians interested in doing something different got together. Jason Kavett, Mike McGeeney, Matt Ocone, and Mike Pushkin met in Pushkin's basement on June 6th, 2006 for a jam. From this initial session, an original composition was conceived, creating an excitement in the four young men. Pleased with such immediate productivity, the band spent the remainder of the summer writing more music and by the season's conclusion, the band had written ten more songs, which they began showcasing at local venues.
Kavett's stay with the band unfortunately proved short-lived. A month proceeding their first meeting, he realized he had too busy a schedule to devote the proper amount of time to Lady Panic. He bowed out amicably and the band went on the market for a new bassist. Ocone contacted Dan Khalaf, a friend of a friend, and he was invited over to play. It was immediately clear that Khalaf, despite being much younger than the rest of the band, fit in nicely and he was offered the slot, which he gladly accepted.
With a solidified line-up, a growing catalog of original songs, and a demo they recorded in September, the band focused on gigging. Before long, the band had successful outings at Arlene's Grocery and the Knitting Factory, using the experiences to build upon an already intriguing live show.
Lady Panic is determined to make 2007 a productive year. While the band will be taking it easy for the first couple of months as the bands works on other endeavors, once the summer rolls around, the plate will be full o' goodness. Plans for a summer tour of the north-eastern United States are in the works, amongst other things. The gears are in motion and it's going to be a good year for the Panickin' Ladies.
