About Me
The Live Tropical Fish project spring up in Bologna underground scenery in 1992 and set one of the first experiences in the Italian acid jazz movement, a trend already launched in the international setting by bands such as Galliano, Jamiroquai and Incognito, by DJs and producers like Gilles Peterson and Eddie Pillar and for labels such as Talkin Loud or Acid Jazz. Overcoming the limits of the generic definition acid jazz, the music of LTF has always been marked out by a powerful rhythmical impact fit for swaying the dance floor with immediacy. The long live background of the Band has assured a prompt feeling with the public, never passive while listening to the songs, rather, always a supporting actor in the show. Firmly believing that the main heritage of acid jazz lies in its ability to contain the most diversified stylistic suggestions and that its communication potential is borderless, the LTF have always insisted on expressing their lyrics in English and on experimenting with contaminations of artists and DJs in the national and international scenery. Looking from this point of view, the LTF have been setting up collaborations with Patrick Clahar former saxophonist in the Incognito, and especially with the great saxophonist Jay Rodriguez - leader of the New Yorker Groove Collective and boasting an experience of tours and sessions with mythical figures such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Prince, Tito Puente and Ray Charles who was special guest and co-author of some tracks in the LTF first album Shape your Life. Beside a hectic activity in Italy in the years 1992 1998, LTF have also experienced some important stages abroad: in May 1995 they have been invited to the EuroPop Days International Festival in Freiburg (Germany) where they have met the favour of the public and the critics; in July, 18th ,1998 last live performance of the LTF first life when during the major international Rock Kingdom show in Bellinzona (Switzerland), LTF opened the concert of the Earth Wind & Fire. In Italy LTF have been guests in several TV programmes, particularly in mythical TV formats such as T.R.I.B.U. on Telemontecarlo (today LA7), led by Gege Telesforo (june 95), Telesogni on Rai Tre (1997) and Territorio Match Music (1997). But most of all they have been the persuaded promotors of an Italian acid-jazz movement and this action has been crowned by the cooperation with Cap Creus Club of Imola (Bologna) actually the most representative Italian nightspot in the acid jazz period and in conceiving and organizing the Jazzy Jam Festival, the first Italian Acid Jazz festival, where they have performed every year (1996, 1996 and 1997) side by side with great international artists such as Freak Power, Ronny Jordan, Kenny G, Last Poets, Baden Powell, Lonnie Liston Smith, Art Ensemble of Chicago and world known DJs like Gilles Peterson, Nobukazu Takemura or rising stars of that time such as Nicola Conte. On the recording front, some singles (among which, Magister Come Back in December 1994) have been followed by the mix BUTT (IRMA Records) under the artistic production of Luca Trevisi (LTJ), skilled alchemist of black music and rare groove on the international scene. Year 1997 witnesses the exit of Shape Your Life in March (special guest Jay Rodriguez- IRMA Records). The album wins the favour of the Italian and the foreign enthusiasts and a very good success with the critics and DJs who, especially in the following years (from 1998 to the present) together with producers from all over the world, will literally raid the album, making nearly all of the pieces converge in very successful compilations. What is most surprising is that the music of Live Tropical Fish has imperturbably continued to gather fans all over the world especially thanks to the Internet in spite of their silence in live performances. Following to the demands most of which coming from abroad and to the boost of new multinational contacts in the recording field, the LTF are setting about the stage with a revisiting of their historical album, enriched with the newest suggestions from the classical rare groove to the nu jazz, the modern soul and the spiced latin and bossa hints up to the beloved and everlasting funky. In the Madfish Tour the LTF have performed a lot of live exhibitions, such as the Pistoia Blues Festival 2005 (July, 8th, Friday, with, on stage, Popa Chubby, Willy DeVille e Chuck Berry) and the Milanos Blue Note (October 2005) . The new LTF, led by Fabrizio Doc Bix Poli (percussions), Lurpak (bass guitar), Mirco Zagnoli (drums) and Salvo Pignanelli (guitar & voice), welcome the entrance of Pino De Fazio (keyboards & voice) and Adriano Pancaldi (sax). Plus the cooperation of skilled musicians such as Anna Stella Camporeale (vocals), Diamante Gallina (vocals), Amina Abdul Aziz Hamdy (vocals), Daniele Giardina (trumpet), Maurizio Piancastelli (trumpet), Mauro Ottolini (trombone), Sonia Peana (electric violin), and the sax of the canadian Sal Rosselli, Federico Sportelli and Gabriele Bolognesi (in the Adriano Celentano's Rockpolitik TV program band and the reality-show "Music farm"). ____________________________________________________________
