Doc Bix

About Me

"IN THE BEGINNING WAS NOISE. AND NOISE BEGAN RHYTHM. AND RHYTHM BEGAN EVERYTHING ELSE" (MICKEY HART) -Doc Bix started playing percussions before his birth in his mother’s stomach, and she didn’t like this early attitude. Then, he played everything could get a rhythm at home, at school... pens, books, sofas, desks, chairs, pots, etc. He started playing drums when he was seventeen years old with his friend Roberto, ..boards: too much energy = a pair of sticks each week! Listening everything gave him energy and passion, he felt in love with “mod style” and from this path he arrived to rhythm’ n blues and all the black roots of soul, and then... the funky! The real taste of groove! He discovered the jazz roots in the “new cool” Eighties style by Style Council, Sade, Everything But The Girl, Working Week. In the first years of Nineties, he knew the magic feeling of latin and brazilian percussions and he started playing congas and percussions: he need new perspectives and views over the borders of different styles. The flash of inspiration in november 1992: a concert of Galliano in Cap Creus Club (in Imola, Italy)... He said: this is the way! Acid-jazz was the new word (thank-you Mr. Gilles!): new mixed sound with a big heart of rhythmic section. And one nation of Groove: from Italy to England, from Chicago to Rio, from Rome to Tokyo. In december 1992, he became Doc Bix, the father of Live Tropical Fish, acid-jazz band founded with Lurpak and Marta Caffettieri. LTF performed hundreds of concerts in Italy and Europe (Earth Wind & Fire support band in Bellinzona, Switzerland, 1998) and recorded their first album (“Shape your life”, guest Jay Rodriguez, the leader of NYC band Groove Collective) for IRMA records in 1997. After six years of silence, LTF came back in 2003 thanks to the lucky meeting with the guitarist Salvo Pignanelli, the solid friendship with Captain Lurpak and the return of Mr. Mirco “Shuffle” Zagnoli on drums. Now Live Tropical Fish are putting together ideas and inspirations for their second work, trying to keep the funk alive (always!) and digging their roots deeply in african rhythms, but also tasting the flavours of jazz, brazilian, soul, nu-soul and latin jazz. That’s enough bros & sistas? Love, Peace and Unity! Good vibes!(Of course... sorry for my english! My italian is better... : ) -Please check Live Tropical Fish website: www.livetropicalfish.it - www.myspace.com/livetropicalfish
