Birds Eye View Film Festival

Emerging Women Filmmakers

About Me

Did you know that only 7% of directors are women? Birds Eye View provide women with the opportunity to change this.

Birds Eye View Film Festival 6 - 14 March

The UK's celebration of women filmmakers returns with a stunning selection of international features, docs and short films at the ICA and a special retrospective of women in comedy cinema at BFI Southbank. Opened by the fabulous Maureen Lipman, highlights include the UK premiere of Cannes hit Expired starring Samantha Morton, LFF critics choice Unrelated, Hotel Very Welcome – a special mention from Berlin starring Chris O'Dowd, and some mind-blowing and award-winning docs from Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and Nepal. Plus the epic Flying: Confessions of a Free Woman with Jennifer Fox at the Curzon Soho.
The comedy retrospective at BFI Southbank features live music to silent film, plus comediennes from the golden era of Hollywood, with special guests including Jo Brand, Jessica Hynes (nee Stevenson), Arabella Weir, Lucy Porter, Sally Phillips and Shazia Mirza.
A new innovation strand brings mobile phone filmmaking, women in video games, music vids, fashion films, a one off Whitechapel Gallery Late Night event starring a high profile all girl line up of live artists, VJ’s and DJ’s, Late at Tate Britain in partnership with Artprojx and up-to-the-minute training sessions. Plus the chance to take part in an Overheated Symphony.
Bigger and better than ever – don’t miss out! __________________________________________________________

My Interests

Inspirational women, brilliant films, wonderful music and new & exciting ways of working with film.

I'd like to meet:

Amazing women from anywhere in the world!a

Music:

This year we had Mercury Prize nominee Zoe Rahman and BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac playing at our OPENING NIGHT GALA SCREENING.
ELECTRIC LADYLAND - Yes women make music videos too! And just to prove it we screened videos from the best up-and-coming and established UK filmmakers, followed by a fascinating and insightful Q+A with some of these very filmmakers.
For SOUNDS & SILENTS specially commissioned soundtracks were performed by cutting-edge female musicians Errolyn Wallen & Seaming To, to silent films from early women pioneers Germaine Dulac and Maya Deren.

Movies:

Docs, shorts, features, animations, dramas... we love it all!

Books:

'The Pitch!' - Eileen Quinn & Judy Counihan

Heroes:

Jane Campion, Lina Wertmuller, Sofia Coppola (that'll be the only 3 women ever nominated for an Oscar in directing then!), Andrea Arnold (she rocks!!)
And all of our wonderful patrons: Mira Nair, Juliet Stevenson, Joanna Lumley, Anthony Minghella, Mike Figgis, Sarah Radclyffe.
