Alex Reuben, director
I'm a filmmaker with a background as a DJ and in art and design. My road movie, Routes – Dancing to New Orleans (53 mins, HDV, 2006) was shot throughout America’s deep south during Hurricane Katrina. In 2006, Routes previewed at the ICA London, the New Art Gallery Walsall, the Dance on Screen International Film Festival at The Place London, and sold out performances at the Greenwich Picture House.
I took part in the BBC’s Dance Film Academy in 2004. My films appear in galleries, on television, at International Film Festivals and have been nominated for Best British Short Film with screenings at the Guggenheim New York, the Cinematheque in Paris, the De La Warr Pavilion Bexhill and selected as Critics Choice in Time Out London.
I studied design in London and fine art at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. I was a DJ in the pioneering London nightclubs, A Night In Havana, Those Rhumba Nights and The Mambo Inn, fuseing traditional Soul and Reggae with their roots in American, African, Latin, European, Middle Eastern and Asian, diaspora music. I have appeared on Charlie Gillett's international radio shows in London, on Radio Nova in Paris and CBC in Canada. My music, released by Sterns Africa, has appeared in DJ top 10s in the NME and Straight No Chaser magazine.
I am also Head of Post Graduate Dance for the Screen at London Contemporary Dance School

and an Associate Lecturer at Central Saint Martins and Camberwell Schools of Art, in fine art, design, multi-media, animation and illustration.
In 2007, I have been invited by the British Council to show films and teach workshops in Brazil and Israel. Routes, featuring the New Orleans Mardi Gras, previews with a selection of my short films, in the first of a series of artists talks at Sadlers Wells Lilian Baylis Theatre, on March 8th 2007
