D. Harlan Wilson - Bizarro Author

Every facet of life is a form of psychological warfare.

About Me

I'm a fiction writer, literary critic, hack bodybuilder, and college English professor at Wright State University-Lake Campus. I'm also the editor-in-chief of The Dream People , a journal of Bizarro texts, and a contributing editor for Guide Dog Books , the nonfiction syndicate of Raw Dog Screaming Press .Here are my published books:The Kafka Effekt (2001), Stranger on the Loose (2003), Pseudo-City (2005), and a pulp science fiction novel, Dr. Identity, or, Farewell to Plaquedemia (2007).Here are some of my other/upcoming books:Counting Earps & Other Rejekts (2008), Blankety Blank: A Novel of Vulgaria (2008), Technologized Desire: Selfhood & the Body in Postcapitalist Science Fiction (2009), Code Name Prague (2010).Here's a little poster for The Cocktail Party , an award-winning animated short film for which I wrote the screenplay. Here's what a few people have said about me and my latest novel Dr. Identity:"Let’s dispense with the usual predictable analogies (“Kafka/Cronenberg-on-laughing-gas”), redundancies (“Phillip K. Dick/William Gibson-on-acid”), or accurate-but-somewhat-obscure references (“the most intense and, in a certain sense, the most significant young prose writer since Mark Leyner and Ben Marcus ... establishes Wilson as the Steve Katz of the post-everything generation ... vies with Derek Pell’s The Little Red Book of Adobe Live Motion for being the funniest book of the new millennium”), and cut to the chase: D Harlan Wilson¹s hilarious meta-pulp SF novel, Dr. Identity, is a funhouse mirror whose cartoonish distortions continually amaze and amuse—until one realizes that what we’re seeing is a disturbingly accurate vision of ourselves. An instant avant-pop classic by a major new talent. Two surgically-enhanced, stainless-steel thumbs way, way up!” LARRY MCCAFFERY, editor of Storming the Reality Studio & After Yesterday's Crash“A blur-fast caper through a mediated nightmare future which will thankfully be prevented by a series of massive and man-made disasters.” STEVE AYLETT, author of Slaughtermatic & Lint“Dr. Identity is a rollicking romp through a future so absurd, it can’t help but feel real. D. Harlan Wilson shows us everything we know—and don’t know—about ourselves.” ROBERT VENDITTI, author of The Surrogates"Wilson delivers the surreal like no other writer working today." MICHAEL A. ARNZEN, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Play Dead & 100 Jolts. For more information on me and my writing, check out my official website at www.dharlanwilson.com .
