Ada Rovatti

Italian native Ada Rovatti started playing saxophone in high school after years of classical piano training. After winning a scholarship from Berklee College of Music in Italy she divided herself between Boston where she studied with Joe Viola, George Garzone and Italy where she was working in Big Bands with guest artists such as: Phil Woods, Lee Konitz, Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker. After spending one year in Paris touring Europe and Africa she moved in new York City. She has performed in important festivals such as JVC in NYC Rochester Jazz Festival, IAJE, Detroit Jaz z Fest, appearing and performing with an impressive and diverse list of artists and bands such as: Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Miroslav Vitous, John McLaughlin, Anne Ducros, Bob Mintzer, Victor Bailey, Rodney Holmes, Joanne Brackeen, Eddie Henderson, and many others. In addition to her musical expertise Ada appeared in the movie ‘Mona Lisa Smile’ featuring Julia Roberts. In 2003 she released her first 2 CDs as a bandleader with the Elephunk Band and with her quartet with guests: Randy Brecker, Mike Stern and Don Alias. She also appears on the Grammy winner Cd by Randy Brecker –“34 th N Lex”–ESC Records (best contemporary jazz Album of 2003) and on the new acclaimed Cd of John McLaughlin “ Industrial Zen”(2006) Drive magazine raved about this “graceful Italian jazzista” in a recent CD review of Under the Hat. Critics voted Under the Hat as number one in the “Revelation” category of the 2003 in the Brazilian newspaper “Tribuna De Imprensa ” She just released her new Cd “Airbop” with guest artists : Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Don Alias, and many more. ‘AIRBOP” has been nominated in 2006 by a poll by All About Jazz as one of the top Ten Cds. Alla fine del liceo inizia ad ascoltare blues, jazz e funk e contemporaneamente inizia a studiare il sassofono Vince una borsa di studio ad Umbria Jazz per il Berklee College Of Music of Boston ed in seguito si divide tra l’Italia e gli Stati Uniti dove frequenta i corsi con Joe Viola, George Garzone Fred Lipsius. Successivamente si traferisce a Parigi dove lavora in diverse situazioni musicali girando L’Europa e l’ Africa. Dopo l’esperienza parigina si sposta a New York dove ha l’opportunita’ di suonare e registrare con diversi artisti quali: Randy Brecker, John McLaughlin, Bob Mintzer, Joanne Brackeen, Anne Ducros, Eddie Henderson, Mike Stern, Don Alias, Miroslav Vitous , e molti altri. In aggiunta alle apparizioni musicali e’ apparsa nel film di Julia Roberts “MONALISA SMILE” (2004) ambientato negli anni ‘50 facendo parte di una band di sole donne. .Ha suonato in molti club e festival compresi i famosi Birdland, Iridium, (NYC), Hard Rock Café (Boston), Sculler Jazz Club (Boston), Elephant Room (Austin, TX), Rochester Jazz Festival, JVC Festival (NYC) 101.9 Spirit Cruise Smooth Jazz Festival, IAJE 2004 (NYC), Le Club (Mosca-Russia), Detroit Jazz Fest, Dubai Jazz Fest e molti altri. Ha a nome suo 3 Cd (“UNDER THE HAT” nominato tra i top 10 CDs dell’anno 2003 per la rivista giapponese “STEREO”) e ‘FOR RENT”( con la Elephunk Band) Compare come solista nel CD del bandleader Randy Brecker vincitore nel 2004 il“Grammy Award ” nella categoria “Migliore Album di Jazz Contemporaneo”e sempre nel 2004 si e’ aggiudicata il primo posto nella classifica Braziliana della rivista “tribuna de imprensa” come rivelazione 2003 nel jazz. Ada Registra per John McLaughlin l’ultimo acclamato CD “INDUSTRIAL ZEN” (Universal/Verve 2006) ricevendo brillanti recensioni dalla stampa mondiale. Uscito da poco il suo nuovo Cd ‘AIRBOP” per l’etichetta Apria Records (in uscita in Giappone e in Europa all’ inizio 2007) con solisti ospiti Bob Mintzer, Dave Kikoski, Ed Howard, Randy Brecker. Nel 2006“Airbop” e’ stato votato dalla prestigiosa rivista e website “AllABoutJazz” tra I migliori 10 albums di jazz.
