About Me

Pietro Ciancaglini (Double bass) Born in Rome in 1975, he graduated at Conservatory school "L. Refice" in Frosinone. He began his jazz professional activity in 1993 playing first with Ettore Fioravanti quartet and Stefano D’Anna trio. In 1994 after attending Siena jazz workshop he started to collaborate with Pietro Tonolo performing several concerts and recording sessions. In the same period he played also with Mario Raja big band, Roberto Gatto, Maurizio Giammarco quartet. Remarkable are the collaborations with flautist Nicola Stilo and pianist Rita Marcotulli quartet and "Trouffaut project" playing in the most important festivals in Italy and in Holland. In 1995 he started a stable collaboration with alto saxophone player Rosario Giuliani quintet and quartet also recording CD "Luggage" for the french label "Dreyfus jazz". With this group he made a lot of concerts until 2001, and then he started activity with High Five quintet (Daniele Scannapieco, Fabrizio Bosso,Luca Mannutza, Lorenzo Tucci), one of the most importan italian group. They did 2 CD having good appreciations from the critic. In 1998 he was a member of Teatro Eliseo big band directed by Tommaso Vittorini. In 2001 he recorded with pianist Salvatore Bonafede the album "Ortodoxa" that won the referendum for "musica jazz" for best italian album of the year. In 2002 he released his first CD as band leader "Italian jazz graffiti". Remarkable is the collaboration who started in 2000 with the DJ, producer and musician Nicola Conte doing a lot of recordings distribuited in all the world and touring with his group in the most important festivals. With him also he recorded album "Other directions" for the american label "Blue note". Like side-man he played also with Franco D’Andrea, Enrico Pieranunzi, Enrico Rava, Gianluigi Trovesi, Paolo Fresu, Stefano Di Battista, Flavio Boltro, Fabio Morgera, Piero Odorici, Bob Bonisolo, Emanuele Cisi, Francesco Bearzatti, Mauro Beggio, Sandro Satta, Javier Girotto, Antonello Salis, Fabrizio Sferra, Gianluca Petrella, Roberto Rossi, Luigi Bonafede, Paolo Birro, Andrea Pozza, Danilo Rea, Stefano Bollani, Barbara Casini, Marcello Rosa, Amedeo Tommasi, Dino Piana, Armando Trovajoli, Steve Grossmann, George Garzone, Benny Maupin, Jack Walrath, George Cables, Joe Chambers, Eliot Zigmund, Bill Smith, Bob Wilber, Lee Konitz, Kenny Wheeler, Gil Goldstein, Toninho Horta, Claudio Roditi, Michelle Hendrix, Joanne Brackeen, Mark Turner. He took part in several festivals like Umbria jazz, Verona jazz, Veneto jazz, Fano jazz, Atina jazz, Bergamo jazz, Clusone jazz, Crossroads jazz festival, Pulsano jazz, Siena jazz, Paris jazz festival, Montreaux jazz festival, North sea jazz festival, Blue Note festival of Gent. He played also in Portugal, Belgium, Holland, England, Malta, French, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, Turkey, Serbia, Japan and Russia. He’s actually playing with High Five quintet, Nicola Conte, Ada Montellanico, LTC trio, Lorenzo Tucci. He teaches double bass at Testaccio S.P.M. in Rome.
