About Me

Ex pro drummer (long time ago), I have played for lots of musicals in my time, and I think this is the kind of work I have enjoyed most. Here is a list of some of the shows I have played for - many of them several times in different productions: Guys & Dolls. Calamity Jane. Annie Get Your Gun. West Side Story. South Pacific. Oklahoma. Carousel. The King and I. State Fair. Kiss Me Kate. A Chorus Line. Honk. The Boyfriend. My and My Girl. Irene. Sweet Charity. La Cage Aux Folles. Hello Dolly. The Pajama Game. Sugar. Chicago. Return to the Forbidden Planet. The Wizard of Oz. The Ragged Child. Viva Mexico. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Cabaret. Godspell. Follow the Star. Mainly To a Muse. Titanic. The Gondoliers. The Mikado. The Card. Bugsy Malone. The Pirates of Penzance. New Moon. Annie. My Fair Lady. Oh What a Lovely War. Half a Sixpence. Oliver. Fiddler On the Roof. Iolanthe. Scrooge. A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To the Forum. Grease. Plus numerous pantomimes and over twenty years of playing for Chester Scoutabout and Gang Show. I have also played for lots of famous people in my long career. Here are the names of just a few, but the list would run into hundreds if I listed everybody. Most of the names are stars of the past, but the distant past is when I played for them because I am now quite old!: The Platters. Ruby Murray. Edmund Hockridge. Anne Shelton. Mike & Bernie Winters. Ken Dodd. David Whitfield. Ronnie Carroll. Bert Weedon. Marty Wilde. Ali Bongo. Micky & Griff. Des O'Connor. Les Dennis. Tom O'Connor. Kathy Stobart. Cy Grant. Leslie Crowther. Harry Stoneham (jazz organist and for many years he was the musical director for The Parkinson Show)... These days my main hobby is sound recording, and I record everything from singer-songwriter to orchestral and jazz. I am only interested in acoustic recording, and have no interest in sampling, looping, midi and so on. I prefer using hardware for recording, although I do use a computer in the final mastering stage. I use pre-amps by Focusrite (including the Liquid Channel); microphones by Neumann, Shure, Audio-Technica, Sennheiser, Oktava, Rode. Many years ago I wrote the music for a series of natural history films that were shown on S4C (Channel 4 Wales). I presented a three hour weekly jazz programme on local radio for four years from 1989 to 1993. I used to be a very keen photographer (see slide show), and exhibited in a number of exhibitions in Wales, including the Welsh Salon of Photography. I also enjoy writing, and in 2004 was one of the winners in a BBC Wales writing competition. See: http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/capturewales/background/stephen-l loyd.shtml
