I am back from doing 22 dates at the Fringe Festival in Adelaide, Australia. We'll be posting audio and video soon. In the pipeline is a release of my full length piano & voice album. For now, download 'Fairy Tale for Girls' on this page and sign up on my E-List for more news, announcements and downloads.
The 'Like Water' EP is now on iTunes. So is 'Breakfast with Chopin', but I suggest you get it in physical format because of high quality audio (lots and lots of yummy strings) and the original artwork is lovely (we think so). If you get it directly from us (click the picture above), you'll get a personal autograph.
About Breakfast with
Chopin:
It was produced by Oren Hadar, mixed by Sheldon Gomberg and featuresSonus String Quartet on all strings.
They are currently touring with Gnarls Barkley. The piano & voice tracks were recorded in a few hours over a night. It sounds like those records they used to release a long time ago (in a good
way). It may become a standalone project, because I have quite a few more
classical-crossover songs in me, including opera and such.
What some people have said:
Rip it Up Magazine (Australia):
Singer, songwriter and pianist, Elizaveta, is both a classically
trained pianist and soprano, but her interests go well beyond this into jazz and
popular music. Some of the songs are entirely her own and some have had a little
help from co-composers such as Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven. Her lyrics
range from poignant to humorous and her breathy, sometimes sultry voice is
dripping with nectar for the ears. The style of her songs reflects her wide
musical and cultural background and audiences will undoubtedly want to take home
her CD, Breakfast With Chopin, that is for sale at the venue.
National Public Radio:
The New York-born, Moscow-raised musician's extensive knowledge and love of classical music informs her latest EP 'Breakfast with Chopin'. She just might be classical music's answer to Norah Jones"
Rupert Hine ( artist/producer, Suzanne Vega, Stevie Nicks, Teitur, Howard Jones, The
Fixx, Duncan Sheik) :
Breakfast with Chopin is a warm
sonic bath. Elizaveta is in a class of her own. Do not miss her.
Who am I?:
I was born in New York, named after Elizaveta I - the Russian empress, daughter of Peter the Great, and grew up in Moscow, Russia. My full name is Elizaveta Igorevna Khripounova. I lived and traveled around Europe before coming to Los Angeles and learned Italian and French - oui, c'est vrai. I then graduated from University of Southern California in opera and music composition.
I fell in love early on with Chopin waltzes, Tchaikovsky and his romanticism, Beethoven sonatas, Rachmaninov and Faure and grew up having attended all ballets and operas in the Bolshoy Theater's repertoire (courtesy of my mom). Breakfast with Chopin is my take on the music I love. 'Like Water' has more of a pop sound, but if you get it and listen to the songs, you'll hear some classical peeking through, especially on 'Ordinary Life' and 'Perfect Breakdown'. 'Like Water' and 'Perfect Breakdown' were co-written with talented Mr. Oren Hadar, and the songs on 'Like Water' were produced by him, as well, and mixed by Rob Chiarelli.
I play piano, obviously, and also guitar now. I am going to learn cello. Can you blame me?
Trivia: I adore Imogen Heap and Nina Simone.
I am going to record and release a Russian CD soon.
I am learning Chinese.
I have a motorcycle. It is a Ducati Multistrada and I'll post a picture soon. I also have a little dirt bike.
