BIOGRAPHY..
Scott entered the music world playing the guitar at age eight. Two-years later, he sat down at a drum set and was instantly "hooked." As a young musician, Scott was self taught, mastering rudiments and playing by ear. Scott's early influences included Carl Palmer, Lenny White, Alan White, Keith Moon, Bill Bruford and Harvey Mason.
During High School, College and the following years, Scott was in several bands and was always appearing on stage somewhere. These bands included Chakra, Selah, The Bob Williams Trio, Klaus Doldinger's Passport, Mike Grange, Shan Kenner and Equinox. Additionally, he spent time on the road touring and opening for various headlining acts. Scott formalized his percussion studies at Humboldt State University, training in snare drum and set instruction; reading and interpretation of music while developing his own individual tastes and style.
Later, Scott studied with Bill Douglas,(jazz legend and icon) for three years. Subsequent lessons with Peter Donald and Peter Erskine have been helpful in developing Scott's jazz free style and independence focus. Scott's main influences are Jo Jones, Tony Williams, Roy Haynes, Jack DeJohnette, Bill Stewart, Billy Cobham, Adam Nussbaum, Peter Erskine, Peter Donald, Jeff Hamilton and Vinnie Colaiuta. Scott continues to play and further develop his technique for improvisation, combining jazz with other styles of music. He excels in both straight ahead jazz, free jazz and jazz fusion. Scott enjoys playing these styles in selective venues throughout California. His capabilities are extremely diverse as he far exceeds your expectations.
Scott regularly appears in Southern california's Jazz and Blues scene while teaching select students, working full time in the corporate world and maintaining a family. Scott has performed/worked with the jazz fusion group Nuance, Ron Kobayashi, (The RBS Trio, which consists of Ron Kobayashi, Baba Elefante, Scott Ickes and occasionally, Jody Fisher); Dr.Joe Jewell, Clarence Robinson, Jeffery Littleton, Dave Murdy, Joe Bagg, Dr. Lorenzo Sanchez, Shan Kenner, Linda Hopkins, Dolores Peterson, Effie Joy Harris, Rick Hill, Bobby Matos, The Melvin Eddy Blues Band, Bob Summers, Dale Boatman, Debi Ebert, Paul Carmen, Todd Johnson, Luther Hughes, David Allen, Peggy Perkins, Barbara Reed, Gina Saputo, Elaine Miles, Gaea Schell, Julie Day and a variety of other artists.
