Bringing Hip Hop Back To Life, One Song At A Time

About Me

"If you want to be in the music buisness, make it your buisness to know music" ~ Sahpreem A. King
I started producing music in 2001 when I bought a Boss DR-202 "groove machine", and it was a piece of shit (pardon my French), but getting that drum machine was probably the best decision I have ever made in my life. After having it I learned the theory and intricacies of rhythm programming, and I owe what skill (if any) I have presently to that machine. I have of coarse upgraded my set up to a MPC driven studio over the years, but don't forget your roots! I started off producing Techno music and was slowly driven towards Hip Hop because of the complexity of the break beat, and how it just seems to make everyone bob their head, regardless of whether or not they know it or want to for that matter. Growing up in Detroit I was always a huge fan of Hip Hop to begin with, and the only reason I didn't originally produce it was a lack of knowledge, and a lack of an Emcee, this all changed when an old high school friend contacted me about making him a beat for one of his a'cappellas. That friend was, Christopher Fluker (Fluke), and in part I too owe him for blossoming my musical knowledge, because if not for him I may have never pushed myself to figure out how to make a beat someone can flow to. It was then that I really studied producers like Dr. Dre, Timberland, Eminem, The Beastie Boys (under-rated producers), and a whole list of others. I don't really know what, or when it clicked but it did, and at that point I just was totally submerged in Hip Hop. I had always been a part of the culture and life style, but its a whole new feeling when you are partaking in one, or several of the "Elements" of it, its a indescribable feeling, all you Emcee's, DJ's, B-Boys/Girls, and graffiti artists know exactly what I'm talking about. The rest of you need to get involved! Anyhow, back to my life story. I produced the beat for Fluke and he dug it, so we started working together on other projects. I remember on several occasions him just jokingly saying I should try to rap, and me just shooting him down like, "me? rap! your crazy". Wouldn't ya know? My brother and I always used to call people and things, "fly by days" if they didn't matter, I.E. "forget that girl, she aint nothin but a fly by day anyway".. so we were just sitting around one day and I was like, "I should make a song about all them Fly By Days" ( I know this sounds like some kind of joke or made up story but I swear its true, bear with me!) so I made a beat and a chorus, and I rapped 2 verses for it and my brother was supposed to sing one (on the count of him being a singer), but he dropped out of the project (on the count of it being ridiculous) So I called up Fluke and asked him if he wanted to be on it, and in turn the Hip Hop duo, "Project-0" was formed, which in part still exists today but its kind of in a planing stage I suppose. For all of you who remember those early days, and early songs, please...please....please forget them, and keep your mouth shut!! I have to say in hind sight the songs were pretty bad, but again I must say, don't forget your roots. If it wasn't for a little song by the name of "Fly By Days", which was just a joke pretty much, I would not be the Emcee I am today. If out of pure curiosity after reading this you want to hear "Fly By Day", or very old beats of mine you can check out my soundclick page, ( www.soundclick.com/adamsikora ), but again its pretty bad, can't say I didn't warn you.
So I hope you enjoyed that little tale, and I hope you listen to and enjoy the music. One Love!
Soundclick lets you upload CD quality sounds, unlike myspace, so if you like what you hear-ish on my Myspace, checkout the soundclick versions... they are more crisp, and clean sounding....
