Stripped Stories-Wed. Sept. 12 9:30

About Me

I'm teaching a class this September at COMIX! Spots are limited so sign up today! "Storytelling and Solowork"= develop a six minute showcase-able set that shows who you are...without doing stand up! http://comixny.com/event.aspx?eid=230 Plus a showcase at Comix which you can get professionally taped for your reel! And I'm a very nice teacher, I promise...i used to work with kids!I write a lot and perform a lot. I'm a pretty busy girl. I write a column about sex, dating, and nightlife from a female comedian's point of view on www.hellohilarious.com. I write another column about my experiences bartending at the UCB Theatre on www.theapiary.org. I've written a bunch of shows that have been produced in NYC, and one of them "Slow Night" is currently beng adapted into a screenplay. Don't get too excited, it's being adapted by me (and the other writer Sarah). I also co-host and co-produce a monthly storytelling show at Mo Pitkins called "Stripped Stories." We've been featured in the Village Voice, Thrillist.com, Nerve.com, Whispers Media and other places I can't remember.Fun fact: as much as I love rock n roll, I also love children. I used to be a teacher but that didn't work out. I'm not cut out for that. But I still keep in touch with a lot of the kids and babysit them and see their shows and soccer games and somehow that keeps me very grounded. I don't really dig babies though, I find it hard to communicate with a person that can't speak yet. Sorry.I live with an adorable dog, but he's my roommate's. He's in one of my pictures.I have three nemeses. Is that that the correct plural of nemesis? My closest friends can all name at least one.I'm very laid back, as a whole, and I'm going through a phase where I have very heavy conversations with everyone. No small talk, let's talk about our lives. Let's talk about love. Let's talk about what we love.I work in entertainment, often on camera on TV. I love live performing very much, but can also be content to be completely absorbed in a script I'm excited to write. I have appeared on virtually every cable network as well as Korean and Japanese television. No joke.It takes a lot to upset me and very little to make me happy.

My Interests

Traveling, reading true crime books, gender studies, sociology, seriously good music that can stand the test of time, comedy, theatre, becoming a private eye someday (although I got a little sidetracked by this acting biz), dogs not cats, kids not babies, humans not machines, talking not texting, learning something new every day. Sunbathing on the Jersey shore. I'd like to body paint I think.

I'd like to meet:

People that don't want to talk to me about work all the time.People that don't give me their resume when introducing themselves.People who like dogs.People who aren't on diets, or if they are don't talk about it.People who drop the bit and go for the jugular.People who live their lives for the story and can tell it well.People with firm handshakes and good eye contact. And also my soulmate, but I highly doubt that will happen via myspace. So I'll settle for a cute boy who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty.

Music:

Faves: The Band, The Black Crowes. Classic and Southern 70's Rock mostly. I am not so into pop music. Three Dog Night. The Guess Who. They Might Be Giants. Elvis Costello. Nick Drake. I can tolerate jam bands, I will not apologize for that.

Movies:

Magnolia, Shortcuts, Squid and the Whale, The Anniversary Party, Little Miss Sunshine, I don't know, seriously, I have to do this?

Television:

24, Lost, Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Deal or No Deal . Deadwood, Laverne and Shirley, The Carol Burnett Show, Carnivale, The Wire.

Books:

This Wheel's on Fire, The Family, Monster in a Box, anything by Spalding Gray or Jonathan Ames. ...any book about a serial killer or a musician that was a drug addict. Any book about anything inappropriate or deviant I will read.

Heroes:

Penny Marshall? I do like her... Fearless women and people who never go to the dark side. People who are never too old to play spin the bottle. People who have the balls to be sluts in a world filled with disease. People that don't become total blundering idiots after they reach a certain age. People who aren't obsessed with material things. And I'd like to go the career path of Candace Bushnell...syndicated column, book deal, selling a series, more books, public appearances. Maybe a little of Spalding Gray and Ames's storytelling and performing thrown in there. Yeah, that's what I want. Another hero: Diane Keaton because she keeps the fun, beautiful spirit alive and she reminds me of my hot mom.
