About Me

Bio

South-East Queensland locals, Grassroots Street Orchestra, have created a formidable reputation and a dedicated following throughout Eastern Australia with their captivating original sound, and intense, high-energy live performances. Their unique style is a potent mix of passionate, politically charged, eloquent hip-hop lyricism, underpinned by exotic, progressive sounds from a jaw-dropping live instrumental lineup. After standout festival performances, industry showcases, several east coast tours and a successful EP in 2007 - and with a debut album on the way. 2008 is shaping up to be a big year for this local six-piece phenomenon.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: grassrootsstreetorchestra.net
Band Members: Surya 'Surreal' McEwen: raps
Steve 'Wailin' Wallis: vocals, harmonica, guitar
Robyn 'Gelfling' Cummins: bass, percussion, backing vocals
Charles 'Bobby Alu' Wall: drums, percussion
Youka 'Lele' Snell: violin, melodica, backing vocals
Jai 'Gantic' Mitchell: guitar, bass
Influences: All six members bring a different musical background and set of influences and styles to create a unique and eclectic sound which somehow blends elements of all those influences.
Sounds Like: Rootsy, live music, with hiphop heavy grooves and rhymes played on acoustic guitars, harmonicas, violin, melodica and a splash of percussion over solid bass guitar and drum kit. Plenty of influence from everything from reggae, to latin to blues and folk-rock. Altogether creating something totally new and different.
