About Me

To purchase our new single Fire! on CD for AU$10 inc postage press button:
Assemblage Point formed in early 2006 and began Phase 1 of the project- studio experiments involving manipulated accoustic instruments, ambient sounds, effected vocals and beats from an Akai MPC. These way-out-west recordings revealed an interest in layered soundscapes, first take improvisations and post dance/hiphop rhythms.

Assemblage Point’s inspiration at this time came from a very broad range of musical influences. So broad, in fact, that they felt confused as to who to imitate and instead opted to use their own creativity. They also drew inspiration from performance improvisation and shamanic practices.
Tracks such as ’Mysterious Reality (Demo)’ and ’Lunaplause’ were products of this phase.
Soon, the duo (Christian Punch and Benn DeMole) decided to play live and Phase 2 began. Material created in this time was influenced by the live jamming set-up consisting of effected sax, laptop, MPC, didgeridoo and microphones. Jam sessions were often conducted on Sydney’s Oxford Street under the guise of busking, much to the aggravation of the local police.
Tracks such as ’The Inhabitants Of Senipah’ and ’Orchid Hunter’ came out of these sessions.
Phase 3 was ushered in as an effort to put together some studio tracks for a debut album. At this time Assemblage Point felt a surge of creativity and began producing new material, using the tools of the studio but jammin’ out too. An example of this is the single ’Fire!’ which was made using a drumkit, sax-n-efx, a synth, the sound of the room, a choir of Cats and some rhymin’ verse.
The Assemblage Point live show is an ever-evolving affair. As organisers and headliners of their own A.P.H.I.D. parties, A.P. have rallied forces with theatre performers, improvisers, visual artists and other musicians to create portals into other worlds. Also as members of the physical theatre group Strings Attached, A.P. are likely to incorporate theatrics into their live show.
Assemblage Point don’t know what the future holds for humanity, but they do plan for their debut album to be released in June 2008 through UM Records. To quote this Indian guy I met in a dream once- "To move with the Assemblage Point is to be moved into another world."
Assemblage Point’s new single ’Fire!’ is out now through UM Records. Their previous single ’Cent’nal DUB’ was awarded "Best Experimental Song" in the 2007 Global Marijuana Music Awards.
