You Can Fix Tomorrow

About Me

Julia Starr began her professional music career in Bridgetown, Western Australia, in 1986. She was a founding member of the Bridgetown Music Club, performing at many gigs there and won songwriting competitions. Her original application to Council founded the Bridgetown Music Festival concept (*See local press published at that time) and Julia joined forces with Pip Mills and Sheila Howart to raise funds for the first festival. Unfortunately, due to the Recession, Julia left her home to seek a new life in Darwin, where she continued to expand her music career. Suddenly Julia Starr was in great demand, performing regularly and touring throughout Northern Territory and supporting any interstate acts which toured, including Brian Young, Beccy Cole, Gina Jeffries, Colin Buchannan and many others. Julia also acted as secretary of the Palmerston Arts Council for a year and co-ordinated some big musical events. The Julia Starr Band in Darwin was working on an album of originals for a debut gig and the drummer left the night before to join the rodeo. So Julia Starr then worked solo and was granted two awards from HM Queen Elizabeth (the only songwriter to receive these) and with these grants recorded her first album , Tokens of Love (Winner, Best Contemporary Country 1994) and a video Clancy (Listed in the Nominations for Best Country Music Video - Golden Guitar Awards), which was produced by ABC Darwin and filmed at the Hogs Breath Cafe. Tamworth has been kind to Julia Starr, winning several songwriting awards and working consistently was a major stepping stone. Julia Starr was invited to perform at Starmaker for that major competition and took her new album down with her to promote in 1994. Floods, mud and hail storms did not deter her annual pilgrimage to the Golden City in the Bush, but it didn't really get her past go, so she moved to the Central Coast to persue a recording contract. After working flat out for over ten years, gaining a qualification in sound and technical production and working in all areas of entertainment, country music, sound and film production, Julia is working on two new albums. (Tokens of Love was released in 1994, Moments of Brilliance in late 1998) The next album is a blues album: traditional and co-operative. All past musos who Julia has worked with are invited to contact Julia to indicate their interest to contribute. The album will be available online upon completion. Working from her home studio, Julia is able to take lots of time and personal input to get great results. Julia Starr is looking forward to releasing the new blues and country albums in 2008, planning performances at festivals to present the new music. And with the internet, wants to extend her music network!
