Guitarist Adam Miller has the unique ability to
walk onto any stage and command the audiences attention, be he solo, at the
front of the band, or meant to be in the role of 'sideman'. An expressive
and purely emotive player, his solo shows incorporate interweaving
percussive rhythm, funky bass lines, and intricate melodies all played
simultaneously on the one guitar! His songs are bluesy, soulful,
and heartfelt, drawing influence from guitar greats Tommy Emmanuel, Robben
Ford, Larry Carlton, Charlie Hunter, John Scofield, Eric Clapton, Martin
Taylor, and superb contemporary songwriters like John Mayer, Dave Matthews,
Ben Folds, Fiona Apple, Damien Rice, and Eagle-Eye Cherry.
Starting to play organ at the age of four and
picking up guitar not long after, Miller has long been regarded as a master
of the instrument, even though he has just reached 26. From performing with
guitar gods Les Paul and Tommy Emmanuel, to winning the 2002 Australian Fingerstyle Guitar Competition, and
performing at major Australian festivals like A Day On The Green and Jazz In
The Vines, Miller is certainly making his mark on the guitar world. Some
of the artists he has shared the stage with, or opened for include LA
session gun Louie Shelton, Bruce Mathiske, Gordon
Rytmeister, Lloyd Spiegel, Vanessa Amorosi, Machine Gun Fellatio, Skunkhour,
Preshrunk, The Whitlams, Richard Clapton, Tim Finn, Taxiride, Rick Price,
Craig McLachlan, Anthony Snape, Mitch Cairns, Stevie Fuller, Jason Bone,
Holly Clayton, Daryl Aberhart, Morgan Evans, Katie Brianna, Rex Goh, Amy
Vee, .....
Miller released his first CD 'After One Day' in 2002, a limited print that sold out very quickly. He followed it up in 2004 with 'Direction', a largely solo acoustic affair with a couple of electric tracks. This was launched with a tour of Australia as support act for Tommy Emmanuel. At almost the same time he released the electric instrumental jazz-fusion 'Bending It' album with his band Fumi Boca.
Over the past few years Miller has continued to play full on fusion jazz with his group FumiBoca, guitar gymnastics on the Charlie Hunter 8 string (an instrument where Miller plays both bass and guitar parts at the same time!), solo shows that extend everywhere from classical compositions to pop tunes, to singing in the front of a rock three piece. Honing his stage craft and musicianship led to him being one of the most in demand session players around. All this experience has led to Miller finding a new sound in his music. In early 2007 he released the EP, 'Resolution'. The 5 track CD features Adam's creative songwriting, sensitive acoustic guitar playing, and for the first time vocals. He is currently in pre-production for the new album, which is likely to feature instrumental and vocal tunes that stem from pop, blues, jazz, and fusion ideas and cross every boundary along the way.
