In 2001 she graduated from the Talent Development Project – a journey which was later broadcast on the ABC documentary Rising Stars. She has been entertaining crowds for the past eight years as the lead rockstar in cover bands in her hometown of Newcastle, Australia, and as an independent singer/songwriter, Marissa released her debut album ‘Cheaper Than Therapy’ in May 2008.Marissa made her first foray into theatre in 2006 as an ensemble member in JJK Productions’ sold-out Newcastle season of RENT – returning early in March 2007 to play the role of ‘Maureen’. She was cast as Hawaiian goddess ‘Hina’ in the original rock opera SHINING ISLE and performed with rave reviews in Newcastle’s jazz cabaret ULTRA SWING LOUNGE – BY INVITATION, in March 2007.
