"A brutally tough but impressively executed drama." - Gary Maddox, Sydney Morning Herald
SUNDAY PROGRAM REVIEW:
BEHIND THE SCENES ON WEST WITH "THE MOVIE NETWORK"
“Krige’s sense of visual economy is astounding. WEST is confrontational cinema at its best; With echoes of Mathieu Kassovitz’s LA HAINE, WEST is lensed and scripted in a realist vein that is both convincing and mesmerising in its honest and unsentimental approach to the sensitivities of the harsh transition into adulthood. A compelling debut for a filmmaker of confidence.” – Sally Hussey, Founder and Artistic Director, Film Fest@Falls

WEST SYNOPSIS:Pete and Jerry cousins in their early twenties living together on the outskirts of Sydney. Their life consists of dead-end jobs, getting stoned, hanging out at the local pub and talking about girls. Which is fine with them until Cheryl enters their lives; she's sexy, confident and dangerous. When they both fall in love with her their lives start to spiral out of control. Dramatic, tense and explosive, West explores what happens when you discover how few choices you have in life....

I'd like to meet:

WEST - THE STORY SO FAR:
WEST is an Australian feature film that had its world premiere at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival in February 2007. The film was written and directed by Daniel Krige and stars Khan Chittenden (Clubland, Dangerous), Nathan Phillips (Snakes on a Plane, Wolf Creek), Gillian Alexy (McLeod's Daughters) and is supported by Michael Dorman (Suburban Mayhem, Secret Life of Us), Tim McCunn (Liquid Bridge) with Anthony Hayes (Suburban Mayhem, Look Both Ways) and David Field (Chopper, The Oyster Farmer).
WEST was produced with the assistance of the Australian Film Commission's Indivision production initiative, Palace Films and post production house Cutting Edge and was filmed on location in western Sydney.
WEST was released theatrically in Australia in July 2007 through Palace Films to great critical acclaim.

Music:

JOHNETTE NAPOLITANO of CONCRETE BLONDE fame is the main vocalist on the score to WEST. She also sings the title song, "Falling in Love". Also featured on the soundtrack are the Aussie bands "DAVE McCORMACK AND THE POLAROIDS", "GENTLE BEN AND HIS SENSITIVE SIDE" and "GYVE". The score was composed by Andrew Lancaster and David McCormack, who really are friends, no matter what they tell other people.

Movies:

WEST – DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT:WEST is a film that packs a punch. A raw, emotional punch. It’s a story about choices, and what happens when the choices we make are the wrong ones. I am fascinated by the ‘moment of decision’ and have seen lives spiral out of control because of one wrong choice. What motivates someone to betray a life long friend? We have all experienced bad choices. Betrayal. Anger. And unrequited love. We have all wanted more than we have. WEST captures the explosiveness of youthful energy and examines what happens when this energy is misdirected. Through the conflicting loyalties of friendship, the haze of drugs, hard urgent sex and spontaneous violence, WEST kicks the lie of happy suburbia in the head.
