The SideCats

About Me

The SideCats are on the prowl. The four-piece acoustic quartet purrs up a special blend of original material by Maple Blues Winner Shirley Jackson, and unique arrangements of roots, jazz and blues favorites. The SideCats are not your traditional quartet. The groups unique instrumentation of Jackson on vocals, tenor sax and guitar, Dawn Hatfield (Juno and ECMA recipient) on baritone sax, Rob MacIntosh on tenor sax and Jef James Wirchenko on stand-up bass, makes for a warm, organic and home-grown sound. Jackson’s music slides from heart felt southern blues to swinging horn arrangements to music with a ’South of the Border’ feeling.Their CD ’Live at Yankeetown Studios’ provides an honest representation of their songwriting prowess and performance. The SideCats has provided the opportunity to create new material and display their diversity in styles and arranging while remaining active members in the blues septet Shirley Jackson & her Good Rockin’ Daddys.& The SideCats SonicBids site:

’Live At Yankeetown Studios’ Available @ CDBaby.com"What makes this album come alive is the interplay between the horns- Hatfield’s agile baritone covers the lower range while tenor saxes Rob MacIntosh and Jackson create some deft interplay, all built over Wirchenko’s nimble bass playing. "The horns honk, wail and bump, hitting accent shots and carrying rhythmic passages, covering the space where a drummer would normally push the music. The sound is warm and organic."
