I grew up listening to big Broadway musicals and singing and performing in church and school choirs. In my teens, my buddies and I would play our guitars and come up with tight harmonies for our favourite songs. It wasn't until after obtaining my psychology degrees that I unleashed my passion for music again, this time writing and composing my own songs. At the summer songwriting workshops at Humber college, I found encouragement from Andy Kim, Rik Emmett, Damnhait Doyle and other students to record my songs. Justin Gray helped me to complete a demo with Robyn Newman lending her beautiful vocals at the Nucleus in Toronto. Yesterday, I received a wonderful surprise for my birthday! I won a song contest and will receive a free demo of my song Sometimes a Daydream with Kim Copeland producer in Nashville! Of course, I'm thrilled!
I am passionate about co-writing, and have worked with Halifax based singer/songwriters Alan MacLeod and Mel Farrimond, and Paula Fredericks. Most recently, I have teamed up with Melanie Donnelly and Catherine Kinsman. We call ourselves Dream for Real. Check out our myspace (http:myspace.com/dreamforreal). Chelsea Nisbett of Nova Scotia, sings a powerful lead vocal on Stand Together, our first inspirational song. On President Obama's first visit to Ottawa, we sang "Stand Together" at a Welcome Obama rally. After the lead up to President Obama's election, we went through withdrawal from watching politics, and had fun writing and recording the song "I'm Addicted to CNN" (on You Tube). We got more serious in We'll Find a Way, to focus on climate change and the environment. Along with performing our own songs, we are very interested in placing songs with more established artists, in films and television. We'd love to hear from you!
