My Interests

Hot dogs...boy, do I love hot dogs. My all-time favorite frank comes from Max's Famous in Long Branch, NJ. They serve the spectacular Schickhaus grilled. ...and Bar-B-Q, I really like Bar-B-Q

I dig a nice lead sled...preferably a merc.
I'm also interested in art...drawing and inking. That's how I make my living. Reading, & listening to most kinds of music helps me through life along with old-timey burlesque, Masked Mexican wrestlers like El Santo and the Blue Demon, and monster movie ephemera... ...especially Forry Ackerman's ORIGINAL Famous Monsters of Filmland,
old, old comics, low-brow art, film noir, hardboiled dames ( none better than Susan Tyrrell ), paperback book cover art from the 40s & 50s...

  • ...especially with covers by Rudolph Belarski,
  • ...Official Detective magazines from 1940-1960
  • Shriner figures and fezes
  • Mexican wrestling stuff
  • Mexican lobby cards
  • Painted chalk saint statues
  • Burly-Q publicity photos and promotions
  • Film Noir (books & movies)
  • Old monster magazines & kits
  • 50's & 60's cheese and pin-up art
  • Girlie magazines 1955-1969
  • Plus I'm an art supply junkie...I COVET art supplies. My current favorites include:
  • Loew-Cornell Kolinsky 9000 brushes
  • A cool new refillable Japanese Brush Pen
  • Old Hunt 102 nibs
  • Dr. Ph. Martin's "Hi-Carb" & "Matte Black" inks

  • Oh yeah...and redheads!

    Television:

I don't watch that much TV, but I have enjoyed a few series over the years. One of my favorite shows was the old 1950's show, TheHighway Patrol starring Broderick Crawford.

LikeTelevision Embed Movies and TV Shows

I'm just now getting around to watching HBO's ROME and I'm sorry as hell that they couldn't continue it. I felt the same way about HBO's Carnivale. I've also enjoyed The Sopranos, Showtime's DEXTER, The Brotherhood, and WEEDS. I also loved WONDERFALLS which I never even saw when it aired, but ordered it on Netflix. I haven't been the same since. That Caroline Dhavernas drives me wild.

    Books:

I do like books...especially gritty realism, crime, mysteries, American short story collections, the Beat poets and writers, fiction, non-fiction and humor. Some of my favorite authors are...

Jack Kerouac, Jonathan Lethem, Paul Bowles, K.C. Constantine, Mark Helprin, Ross MacDonald, Chester Himes, James Cain, David Goodis, Jim Thompson, Cornell Woolrich, Howard BrowneElizabeth Tallent, James Elroy, John Fante, Elmore Leonard, F.X. and my friend Eddie Muller who has written some of the greatest books on Film Noir ever published He's also a great novelist ( and no, he didn't pay me to say that! )

    Heroes:

I guess my father was my hero. He was a skillful carpenter and a contractor, but he always wanted to be an actor. He did impressions of Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, Bogart, John Wayne and Groucho Marx... and taught me how to do them. That's really him below there. But he wasn't a tuff guy...he's just acting
