hot layouts | socomments.comAppaloosa is a project born in 1998 in Livorno (Tuscany) from an idea by Enrico Pistoia and Niccolò Mazzantini . After some changes in the line-up, gigs and first recording sessions, in the year 2000 the drummer Marco Zaninello joined the band and, at the same time, they stopped singing in order to leave space to an instrumental sound which melt noise tones with funk and phsychedelic attitudes. This period has been characterized by the use of two electric basses, creating geometric structures, emotionally filled with dynamics and grooves.After two demotapes, in 2002 they took part to the selection phases for Arezzo Wave and - such a big surprise - they gained the chance to play in the summer festival on the Psycho Stage (the second according to importance). Then they won the possibility to record their first full-lenght at Sound Studio Service in Città di Castello, being supervised by Marco Capaccioni and Alberto Brizzi. The cd has been released by Ondanomala records, the official label of Arezzo Wave festival and came out in Summer 2003, when the event was in progress and hosted the band again; their first work has got enthusiastic feedbacks both from the press and the listeners.
In the same year Appaloosa toured italy in gigs provided by Jacopo Bimbi & Silvia Andreini (Arezzo wave booking) and in a following period by Ugo Mazzia (Booking for One Dimensional Man and more); so the band have shared the stage with One Dimensional Man , Zu , Perturbazione and many other Italian bands. In October they made a showcase at Radio Patchanka (famous national network) and another one at M.E.I (the most famous indipendent label meeting) in Faenza. Moreover they took part to several compilations such as Made in Italy (by the italian magazine Rock Star ), Rock Sound (magazine), I.D. Box (Website of reference), Magic Bus (Arezzo wave compilation, hosting even Sonic Youth!), 15 Italian Dishes (Raving rec), Collisioni in Cerchio (fromScratch rec).
In the meantime the guys passed from strings to synthetizers and cheap organs: then, quite by chance, in April 2004 Simone Di Maggio joined the band, bringing some laptop electronics in the compositions. Once again, the extended line-up played a set of old and new songs at Arezzo Wave, but this time on the Main Stage with Karate , Black Rebel Motorcycle and Cypress Hill ; not after long they have been invited at Tora Tora festival (supposed to be the italian Loolapalooza) in Reggio Emilio and Genova. In Spring 2005 the band did a mini tour in Spain supported by the excellent videos of Martino Chiti , a photographer and videomaker who started co-operating with the band in Livorno during the previous year.
The time to record a second full-lenght arrived and without esitation the band callled Giulio Ragno Favero , coming to his Blocca A recording studio in Padova in June 2005. The new tracks are the proof of how the Appaloosa have managed to mix together what they have worked out since now: each song has got its precise identity, according to the style and the instruments chosen; anyway, the final result is linked by a powerful and dirty sound.
This work has been appreciated by Paolo Naselli Flores who decided to release it for his label Urtovox , supporting and promoting the band working side by side with Locusta Booking Agency (at the moment, the best for italian indie bands - not mentioning the international roster).
Last but not the least, the title of the cd: Non Posso Stare Senza Di Te . Traslation: "I can't stay without you" - and we are not referring to a specific human being, animal, object and so on and so forth. We have just thought to give an italian name to our record, even if it could sound funny... maybe it could be better that way!
